Reminds me of Liberty Weekend Briefing to my Marines: "If it ends up that your dick is sneezing in your undies don't just think that will go away, go to sick call and get checked out."

i had the same problem with my 06 rx8 and was also using excessive amounts of oil and found 1 of my oil cooler pipes had a rusted to the point a pin hole had found its way into the pipe. I modified a standard hydraulic banjo fitting to take the original rx8 screw that goes thru it, cut my pipe to the correct length and crimped the modified banjo fittings to each end and reconnected at each end. I then cable tied the new hydraulic hose to the side of the other pipe and didnt cost me a penny as one of my customers has the machine that makes pipes.

At first I kept thinking this was coolant getting into it. Thanks for clearing it up!

This literally just spooked me today, glad that it's a common occurrence and not something drastic like a leak in the water jacket.... relieved.

Hahaha, awwwww...... I'm one of them. First time RX8 owner and checked the oil today while filling up at the pump. After reading this thread f*cking relieved that it's common and I shouldn't be alarmed!

Has anyone ever addressed the gas smell on the dipstick? The froth is what made me want to smell the dipstick in the first place. And after all the reading, I'm ok with the milkshake, but still concerned about the gas smell because I haven't been able to see where anyone had addressed that issue..... anyone? ...... Anyone?

Do you spend a lot of time idling, warming up, or, on the hand, racing? Some gas will always make it into the oil, but those conditions increase the amounts. Assuming the rest of thr car is healthy obviously.

Change your oil, report back.

Driving the car almost every day in Atlanta does equal to a bit of stop and go gridlock to and from work. I also try to redline it once a day, but that's it. It's also due for an oil change that it won't get until after Christmas. Plus, as of today, it's officially winter, so it may be all those circumstances at the same time contributing to the issue. I also started recently getting a rough as heck idle at cold start up for about 30 seconds to a minute before smoothing out. I never start driving until it stops. CEL light has started blinking whilst idling rough, assumably from misfiring. I changed all plugs, wires and coil packs at about 145,000 miles and it's at 191,000 now. (New engine was put in at 135k.) I'm also thinking they need to be changed again, but I digress. I suppose I'll report back after the oil change, but in the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions or comments, I'm open. Thank you all

This is an old thread and a common issue. Since it doesn't occur in previous RX's I've had, I did some experimenting. First, I built a short removable extension and take-off with a tube to a small plastic bottle as catch-tank. I expected to get condensate in the bottle, but non appeared, and the condensate still appeared on the dipstick. This indicated the condensation is happening as soon as the air reaches the dipstick tube. On previous RX's the dipstick goes directly into the casting, so no issue. The lightweight tube on the RX8 will be at a lower temperature due to the cooling air rushing past. To check this I then placed rubber insulation around the tube. Issue almost completely eliminated. Still a little condensate, but nothing like previously.

Water in oil in dipstick

I've had an 05 Shinka off the showroom floor since new... I remember a service bulletin coming out about this years ago, and that Mazda had a fix, ...I never pursued it til recently, now dealer has no record of that fix or service bulletin....probably because they decided it didn't hurt anything, so withdrew the bulletin to withdraw their liability for repair?

It may not be the complete answer as there will still be unvented condensate in the tube, but the insulation is my "fix".

Had this gunk on my oil cap, dipstick, and I guess pretty much everywhere around the oil cap. If you touch it, it will just turn into a water droplet. It's just condensation that didn't boil out of the oil as all the forum members have previously said. It's fine, as long as you replace your oil regularly as you should.

I think it is just condensation because it does not smell like fuel or antifreeze.
I had an almost exact replica of your foam but after running it hard and doing oil changes it was never fixed. Upon further inspection (removing the UIM) it was almost full of this disgusting greenish froth. If anyone knows more please help. I'm so close to just pulling the whole engine apart.

Using a camera the inside of the manifold was just coated with about 1/2 of this funk.

Please let me know!!!!

This is what Mazda released reference the issue. They recognized it was a large customer concern and a TSB was released reference the issue. More can be found about the issue here in the forum in the TSB thread.
