Starting Issues? START HERE.

Hi. Thanks for quick replay. The Compression was about 6-6.5 bar (used analog tester) which is about 90-95 psi and there was nearly no difference between rotors. Other thing is as i said there is no difference in starting if the car is hot or cold.

Sometimes the car wont start until i deflode the engine .... I never drive short distance and never turn off car when cold ... im thinking it could be injector or fuel pomp but at the moment i just want to know if anyone had same issues. Thanks

Ok, you don't have a proper compression test.
You state a 0.5bar range.
So if your lowest rotor face was at 6 bar, then your compression is fine if, and only if, your cranking speed is under 200rpm. If your cranking speed is higher than that, your motor is below compression spec.
If your lowest rotor face was at 6.5 bar, then your compression is fine if, and only if, your cranking speed is 230rpm or lower. If your cranking speed is higher than that, your motor is below compression spec.
So basically your compression test is worthless, because you still don't know the answer. And you don't know if it is the starter instead, since you don't have a cranking speed to judge the health of the starter.

hi. I checked the compression again today now rotor 1 6.2 bar, rotor 2 nearly 6.1 checked on engine wormed up. The cranking speed is when cold was under +-200 when hot i got reading 210 first time and second 213-215 around this. It all looks fine that the problem. Engine has been rebuild at 100k and there is 140 on it now. Thank You again for looking into my case.

Those scores are above failing, though not great.
Replace your starter, that is clearly failing. A new starter will have a cranking speed of ~270-290rpm.

Well the think is, if the engine would be faulty the compression on a worm engine will be much lower than at cold but it isnt. The other think is that the car sometimes starts within one sec and sometimes it takes good few turns. I was thinking about the starter but i say the starter turns at same speed all time and the car sometimes starts, sometimes doesnt. I see You know a good bit about this car so could you tell me one thing, if im right the resistor controlls the fuel level goin into injector, are those resistors faulty ? Is there any way of checking it ? Thanks

Seriously, replace your starter first. It's failing.
The faster your starter, the more reliable any 1 ignition attempt will be. Sometimes you get lucky and it fires a rotor face, sometimes you don't and it take a while before the engine gets up to speed enough to be more sure of igniting.
Don't get exotic with other fixes until you fix what is known to be wrong.

Not on starting. A completely clogged cat that completely seals the exhaust might cause problems if the engine doesn't start quickly, or will just after starting, but it won't delay the start of an engine if the engine starts fast normally.

Hard Starting
I got a "metallic noise" when starting.... then a hard start (with metallic noise) and finally, no start at all. Since my car is manual, it kick started and ran great. While accelerating, I heard the same metallic noise.
It seems like the flywheel is made in 2 parts. One part attached to the engine, Second part attached to the first part (pressed on). These two parts can get separated and it may look like a starter issue.
Just adding a recent problem I had with starting my engine.

Hi. Hmm take the starter out, and then you should be able to see some flywheel. Starter is only on two bolts easy to take out. check the starter outside using car battery and jump leads.

no power at all!!! wont start turn over nothing
2008 mazda rx8 with 43k standard bhr igntion system maintained to mazda standard
im getting no power to anything the battery is optima....it has randomly not had power when i go to start it 4 times in the 2 years i owned it. it started 8 months ago i just towed the car from washington to california and it happen today at winco the 4th time. everytime i i have this issue i literally wiggle wires near the battery and or tighten terminals one time and it worked. today did all the above and nothing. my igntion relay started clicking my dash started restarting. i replaced the relay and nothing. also i pushed in the clutch today and my cars electronics reset multiple times as if u restarted the car but the car maintained its rpms and mechanical dutys. it only happen in first gear. im about to take the battery starter and alternator to autozone for testing. i also ponder the theory of bad neutral safety switch.
no power to car all all with good battery
bad starter? alternator? battery? Neutral safety switch? anything please ill take all advice

cylinder 1 misfire @ 50k
Found this thread very informative, of course my fuel light is on so trying that first. Previous owner ( just us two) kept meticulous records, no change of coils. Taking Fungster's advice and buying BHR coils, replacing wires and new plugs (stock ones and yes I know the are two types upper and lower for each rotor).
Thanks once again loyal RX-8 lovers, we are definitely an entire different breed of car FREAK !!!!

Hello...I wasnt sure if this belongs in a new thread but my RX8 just wont start. It's been in cold storage for the winter and when i tried to start it now, it just wont do anything. I've never had any problems before. I also tried suing a battery booster and same result. I've had the 8 for since '05 and original owner. I'm posting my question here before i bite the bullet and contact the local dealership. Hope you guys can help. I posted the video for reference. Thanks.

I've been thrown numerous SSV-related code and my car won't start up when it is hot. However only by waiting 5 minutes or so it lets me start it back up.
Could this really be a compression issue or could the SSV be a culprit too? Also, when the engine warms up I can't get past 5k+ rpms at times.

For anyone else this was correct. You are a bada$$ RIWWP. Thank you for looking out again. I disconnected battery terminals cleaned and saw they looked like crap. (Originals) So I decided to get replacements and fired right up. Must have been something I did during install of the coils as I did disconnect the battery to be on the safe side.
thanks, guys!

I had to leave my car outside all winter since I lost my license, recharged the battery, and It's not firing. I can hear the motor cranking over, but there's no spark. I don't think it's flooded (done that before, sounded different). Anyone have any ideas?
