These are the rebuilders I'm aware of, plus there's some links to reman threads in it.
If you find someone not on the list, please post it here.
Thanks.

If you go the rebuild route you could have the irons lapped and get new housings however it's around the same if not more cost wise to do that as opposed to getting a Mazda reman. Did the dealer give you a printout if your compression test or just word of mouth?

Thanks Red Rotor & Big Cajun. After reading some other posts I was thinking about the idea of getting a report and now I will definitely ask. They just told me but did not give the printout and I saw that RPM of the test is important too. Hopefully I can get that tomorrow.

Having idle issues , HELP PLEASE.

So I got my rx8 under the pretense that it was freshly rebuilt by a reputable person I trust . But it had a few issues I was made aware of. That it needed a new intake and that it might have a vacuum leak . And that it needed to be bump started because apparently with an Atkins Rotary rebuild kit , it didn’t make enough compression to start off of the starter . But after bump starting it and driving it roughly 13 miles. It still won’t start under battery power and it dies when I push the clutch in. It won’t idle at all. Sounds like a fuel pump . When it hits 1200-1500 rpm it abruptly sorta dies. Doesn’t trickle down like I’ve heard a low compression engine does . It has some engine codes but other than an O2 sensor I don’t think it would cause not starting under battery power or bad idle . Or maybe the engine hasn’t broken in yet? I’m not sure . Any help I’d appreciate

What are the codes? You would be surprised what affects starting.
P0420, if that is the O2 sensor code you have, typically indicates a clogged cat, rather than bad sensor.
Clogged cats kill engines.

the last think i did is scanned with obd and the result is code U1900.

Im having issues getting my starter to crank over.
I replaced the battery clamps, battery, got a low millage 07 + starter, swapped out the relay. My next step is the clutch switch, is there anything else I should be looking at?
ps my car is an 04 6 speed

U1900 is a pretty general failure of communication between the computer and other components. Possible a rat has chewed through wiring behind the dash or under the hood while it was sitting?

Does the red car and key icon on the dash flash rapidly when you try? Any blown fuses?

As Loki says, the 'U1900' code is the ECU.

If the clutch switch and relay are ok, the next step is to put a jumper wire across the large terminals in the relay socket.
If it cranks with these bridged, that's bad news -(worst case Ontario)- that relay grounds thru the ECU, and it's not grounding.

Either bad wiring around the ECU or bad ECU.....

Hot start as first hot start in day problem

Dear all,
I found out that my car not having trouble to turn on when hot (cranking max 5 to 6 seconds), but if it was really cold (first turn on in a day) and I turned it on, heated him, drived him and then turn it off, after 4mins I would have problems to turn my rx8 on. It turns after 12seconds to 15 seconds of cranking, it never flooded.
After that, every single time i turn it off I do not have problem to turn it on. It cranks 5 to 6 seconds.
It cranks from 5 to 6 seconds no matter of time I was waiting (1 sec, 15sec, 1 minute, 5 minute, 20 minutes).

I readed whole article and I did not find what could cause this problem. I have 4months old starter with 14 teeth, 2.2kw.

Did anyone have same situation?
Thanks in advance!

My car is 2003, 230hp 6 gear transmission.
84000km.
Right now it using 5w30 shell helix

Can’t start after engine swap

Hi, I recently put in a 13B engine after mine bust apex seals. The problem is when all was done, the CEL is not coming on when ignition is turned on. Help please.

Battery acts dead on start

If I'm asking a question that's been asked before, or I'm posting in the wrong thread, feel free to yell at me, but I've searched for like 5 days and ain't found nothin'

Ok so when I try to start my RX8 (05, 6spd AT) all power goes out until I unplug the battery than plug it back in. When I put it in "on" everything works fine, the dash does a dance and the radio will play it's music, but as soon as I try and start it, the whole car just shuts down. No relays clicking, no dash, no starter turning over, nothing. New battery, main fuse (It was blown when I got it), and new starter relay so far, and because the battery keeps faux dying, no codes in the ECU. Anybody got any ideas?

Sounds like the battery is toast and/or battery terminals are loose/dirty. Powering the accessories takes about 5% of the current required to turn the starter and the battery may have lost all capacity to provide that current.

Dud1f3r, check your battery terminals to ensure they are not loose and that no corrosion is present. It sounds to me ad if they are just not clean and or secure.

Would that also cause no power to come on anywhere until I unplug and plug back in the battery?

Edit: Yes it would. Thank you so much!

Yes. What is the one thing you're changing when you unplug/plug the battery? It's easy enough to check/fix also.

check your earth cable line right up to where it’s fastened to body. Depending on battery terminals on your positive and negative cabling, check tightness of terminal that fits on battery to cable gland. 🙂

Issues with shifter console lightbulb

Hey everyone. Not sure if I’m doing this right, but I had a question for the members here. I have a 2004 Rx8 and I noticed the shifter console bulb was out. I bought a new one, popped it in, turned the car on, made sure the headlight and other console lights came on, but the bulb won’t light up. Any ideas on what that could be? It’s driving me bonkers.

Also, Did the 2004 models not come with a trunk light? Because there’s not one in mine ANYWHERE. 😳

appreciate any help or guidance
