Contact MNAO at the 800 number in your owners manual and let them know. They may not have the correct address for you.

You might want to call Mazda North America customer service line and make sure they have your address correct in their system. The number should be in the back of your owner's manual.

How can one tell if the recall was done?

I just brought my car in for the 3305G Fuel Tank recall. My car is a Mar. '04 build, so I believe the lower control arm/ball recall doesn't apply. Only got a letter for the Fuel Tank recall from Mazda.

But when I got the car back, it said: "Performed recall 3305G lower control arm inspection. vehicle okay. both arms okay."

I'm under the impression that the bozos didn't do the Gas Tank recall and only inspected the lower control arms. I can't see a heat pad from under the car, should it be easily seen? Can't tell if the car was flashed. The only part number shown is F1Y1-42-76X. I have no idea what that part is. They didn't even put a sticker in my engine bay.

I'd like to know what others had on their service invoices after getting their cars back for the heat pad/fuel tank recall.

Lie on the ground with a decent flashlight. Look under the car at the fuel tank. Shine the light at the leading edge of the tank, and follow the straps that secure it to the body.

Look, as best you can, up along the front of the tank and follow it's lines as it touches the body at the top. You should see a 3/8" thick black foam sheet sandwiched between the top of the tank and the floor. If you cant see it, look again. It'll be there somewhere. Every car that needs the lower control arm recall, also needs the gas tank recall. They won't do the lower control arm one, and miss the gas tank one. I suspect you're looking at a typo on your service sheet.

Cheers,
Gomez.

Can someone give me a summary here of tis thread - 63 pages is a bit much to jump into. I'm taking my car in for the fuel tank and front arm ball recalls today. What's the battery issue? Should I be asking for more work to be done? (My car does seem to run a little hot, but no major problems to this point.)

I don't think you actually need the letters at this point. The dealer should be able to tell if you are on the reacll lists by your VIN - and they can do the work if you are.

Have the recall items checked/repaired by your dealer. If you don't have any other problems, you shouldn't need anything else done. Happy Motoring!

Actually he may want to look for this blanket attached to one of his control arms.

Thanks Gomez. After crawling under the car, I could see nor feel any trace of a heat shield pad.

Called my dealer, sure enough, the mechanic only did the lower control arm recall (which wasn't even needed) and didn't do the fuel tank. So its gotta go back again, what a pain.

Well, I took mine in for the two recalls, scheduled maint, broken heat temp ****. Well, actually my wife took it in with notes from me. Hehe. She told me the service dude told her that actually, there are THREE recalls. What? Well, sure enough, the invoice states three recalls, BUT, one of them was good old MSP04 - Engine Hard To Start / Lack Of Power, identified as Cust Request Recall MSP04. Part number N3H6-18-881A-MT. That's for the M flash. Jeeze.

Now, we all know that Recall 3305G includes a reflash (N3Z2-18-881R for me). Are they double-dipping? Surely the reimbursement they get for the 3305G recall would include the reflash work, right? So, they're gonna get reimbursed for the recall AND for the good old MSP04, since they separately included that on the invoice?

I had previously gotten it re-flashed to "N", and I know it got it since the AC cutoff RPM's increased accordingly.

Surely they didn't re-flash me back to "M", right? Should I do a test to see if it got the newest flash that it should have gotten for the recall? How do you think I should test it? Bring it up to operating temperature and rev it in neutral @ 4000rpm for 2 minutes to see if it goes to idle rpm? Is there a chance of heat damage if I do this? Maybe aim a window fan unit at the car while doing it?

They can't reflash you to "M". It's been removed from their WDS and replaced with the latest flash. You'll have the "R" flash now.....no worries.

Got the recall work done but forgot to check for the campaign sticker until after I got home. Sure enough, there isn't one. The doorjamb "authorized modification" stamp is there, though. I got a feeling the flash was done because it's been smoother at pootling around inside the parking garage. But, will have to follow up. Argggg!

Has anyone checked the operation of the Free Rev mode following the recall flash? Confirmed the revs drop to idle?

330 is the fuel tank, 340 the control arms.

EDIT: Received this postcard yesterday from the very same dealership that did BOTH recalls 9/13/05. The level of incompetence from auto dealers is amazing. Why isn’t this way of getting and service cars obsolete? Why can’t we just go to the “ Mazda Depot “ and deal with people paid by Mazda USA?

Got the recall done last Thursday. Sticker 3305G. Had oil and filter changed too. Got a loaner: new Malibu with <50 miles on it -- not too bad, actually -- from onsite Enterprise and they didn't even charge me for gas. No problems found. Service advisor made it a point to tell me that they'd installed the pad and reflashed as well but I don't know to what level. Everthing went like clockwork.

The car seems to have a bit more oomph and to be a bit smoother when taking off in first gear. Imagination? Now to see how the mileage is. Fingers crossed. I think I was one of the "lucky" ones from the outset; never got less than 19 mpg with about 3/4 highway driving.

You know, all of the things under there that are supposed to be inspected for heat damage - I have to wonder if simply protecting them soley by programming a Free Rev Mode into the PCM is good enough to ensure long life. I plan on keeping this car several times over its warranty period. Will those components endure the heat spikes and the heat cycling? Man, I just have to wonder...

get a load of this

So three weeks ago I took my 2005 in for the recall according to the letter I got in the mail. I got ok service, a loaner, and later in the day a call to the wrong phone number saying it was ready. whatever. I go and pick it up and the invoice says an "inspection" was performed. I have no recall sticker so I attribute that to the actual heat shield not being installed. I go on my merry way. three weeks later, or last night, I get a call saying i need to bring my car back so they can now install the heat shield! what the hell did they do the first time? I called and asked why I had to go there in the first place and was told that the first visit was to perform the inspection, but now they got word from mazda that my car needs the heat shield installed. what?! I thought the inspection was to see if it needed it in the first place. so, is mazda just installing a shield in every 8 now instead of seeing which ones need it? and how does open road mazda expect me to trust them to work on my car ever again?
