Dealers got parts and repair info before the recall letters went out. Vehicles on dealer lots were the first cars repaired. It's unlikely that a car in dealer inventory needs any recall work still.

Just had the Recall 3305G Fuel Tank work done on my 05 "8" and it appears they installed a pad around the gas tank to control heat and reflashed the PCM so there are revised PCM calibrations that will change throttle control in order to prevent thermal damage due to exhaust overheating when the vehicle is stopped and the engine RPMs are high for an extended period of time (as in hitting the throttle in a traffic jam to keep the AC cooling at its best level while stuck in traffic). Does anyone know if the reflashing of the PCM will affect how the car performs in any way?

that depends on what flash level you are coming from. so its difficult to give you an answer.

Just got the heat shield and suspension recall notices last Saturday (Sept 3). I already had the work done, but if anyone is still wondering where your letter is, should be getting it soon.

Not necessarily true. I bought my 2004 RX-8 after the passenger airbag recall came out - took the car home and realized after viewing this site that I needed to check into this recall to see if it had been done. Surprise...it had not been done...direct violation of NTSB/DOT regulations for selling me a car w/o the safety recall being done. I lit into the sales manager and told him I should turn his a*s in...there are heavy fines for dealers selling vehicles with outstanding safety recalls!

When you say hard start.... I had an experience where the engine was hot. Shut it off. 5 minutes later started it and the starter and motor just spun like crazy without catching. I thought it was flooded or the apex seals weren't doing their job, next attempt it started.

When mine's cold, it never quite sounds like it has enough power, I intend to ask the dealer to check the battery and starter next time it's in.

The original batteries that came with 2004 and some 2005 are underpowered. There's a TSB to replace it with something with a bit more cranking power. I don't know how to tell which battery is which.

And I believe there is also a TSB for an upgraded starter motor.

I asked about other fixes for my car when dropping it off today and was told the only thing that showed up was the gas tank recall. I thought there would be a lot more to do...I sure hope they get all that need to be done. Their drop-off handling left a lot to be desired, so I at least hope their mechanics make up for that fact by doing their job correctly.

For the potential RX8 customers seeing cars being towed to dealerships to get fixed is not good for sales

I am also truly starting to feel like a guinea pig for Mazda as i no longer have the confidence in the testing that Mazda has supposedly done on this car , the real world testing is being done by us and the number of failures is mouinting up rapidly .

Hope you get your car sorted out , i for one will never again buy a 1st or second year production car especially from MAZDA .

I have owned 2 Hondas from brand new and not one slight problem Mazda products are obviously not in the same league .

Every car is going to have it's quirks, and usually some have recalls, big deal. Lazymark, hey sensor go out from time to time, it doesn't mean the car is a "piece", it just means it had a defective part, that is what a warranty is for. I have had to have things fixed on my car, a slight inconvience, and the recalls I need to have done, but I would not trade this car for anything right now, love it.

The new starter motor makes all the difference in the world. Mine use to sound slow and now it sounds like it is something that will start a car. Off topic = YES

I wish. Can anybody cough-up a TSB for this?

Since we've gone off-topic for a moment (yeah, like that past 62 pages were all on-topic), I see we have another MX6 upgrader ... you still got it? PM me

I just got my recall notifications in the mail last week. I'm going in for both recalls tomorow morning. I'll see if they can do the battery, probably, and the starter, probably not.

My one beef with this service dept is: on the phone, they're vague about what they can and can't do. It's a crap shoot.

got my group one recall done. It took them 40mins to do once the car was cool. The r flash does pull a little differant. More midrange? Also doesnt seem to have that little hiccup at 6 k. I have noticed my fans coming on more. That may be a good thing i dont know. No problems with that --it is just a change.
I also mention my wimpy cranking power. My car has not flooded but it does have some wimpy cranking sounds. They checked the battery and indeed it was low(bought mine in dec/03) and they will prorate a battery for me to the tune of 40 bucks. Thats ok with me. I also noticed that some lawn mower (regular riding style mowers) at pep Boys yesterday that had 450 cranking amps! These are for one cylinder under 15 hp engines. Hell why buy a bralle battery for weight savings--just get a lawn mower battery for track use!
Dealership is treating me right.
Good recall--and by the way my suspension arms were ok.

I just went and bought the MTP-35 battery on my own and installed it, seems to make the starter sound like it isn't struggling anymore for juice. I bought the battery myself because I just wanted it as a safety feature that I will not have to worry in the future. The battery cost me $75USD, and I installed it all the way to the back of the box, as to block as little as possible of the opening at the bottom that vent cool air in.

I think with 640CCA there I will have more juice in case I ever need to use it, or leave the car for a long weekend again.
