My experience was like expo1's.

I took my car in on the July 25th for the first oil change and had them put 'check for recalls' on the check-in sheet.

I watched ALL work done on my car from no more than 6 feet away. I was standing in the side door.

He raised it and removed the oil plug. I asked about the recall and he called over the service manager. After the service manager went to look over any recalls he said it would apply to only some of them. I mentioned I was in group 1. He didn't seem to eager to talk after I mentioned that. He then lowered the car and the service manager came back and talked to him.

After refilling the oil he went into the car with the reprogrammer. He set it on my parchment passenger seat which pissed me off as it was dirty. Yea, he left some marks but I was able to get them out when I got home...

After he finished reprogramming the car he drove it out. At NO time did he check the undercarriage for heat damage and he definitely didn't drop the tank nor install the heat wrap. He never checked any bushings, harnesses or the control arms either.

When I got my invoice it said they 'Performed Recall 33056' It definitely says 33056 and not 3305G. There is NO 'Campaign Label' under my hood nor is there an 'Authorized Modifications' label on the door jam.

And just to add if you go to the dealer for something else and THEY offer to do the recall work STOP THEM! Wait for the letter like ZOOM44 Said! I just spent the last two days going back & forth with Mazda getting my 8 back on the recall list because the dealership closed my open recall and didn't do the job right.

For real, they are just going to have to take the car back later and get it done right - or risk a problem down the road.

"The sky is falling, the sky is falling" - I mean "do the recall now, do the recall now" :D

Won't affect us Clyde, only the poor suckers in New South Wales are affected.....thank God :D :D . This recall would trouble me more than the RX-8 one if it crossed the state border!!

It's a bit of a ***** of a job, installing this tank insulator pad. Mazda are only allowing 6 mins for the install......maybe it's not surprising corners are being cut if there is no obvious damage elsewhere. Not making excuses for them, but owners will have to be vigilant if we are to take your experience into account.

Glad to hear you followed up on your recall "fix". Didn't sound right when you first described what they did and what they told you. Good on ya!

Am I to assume that because they dropped my exhaust and fuel tank that the recall work was actually done correctly, even though I have no campaign sticker?

Personally, I wouldn't assume anything unless I saw the blanket with my own eyes if I didn't have the stickers. Not from my experience anyway. Edit: Group 1 that is.

There is no need to drop the exhaust..aftermarket or otherwise to do group 1 or group 2 vehicles.

Sorry for your hassle Expo.

Well, regardless of whether they needed to drop the exhaust or not, they did, which to me indicates that they did something under there. I'm looking at my receipt for the work now, and it does indicate they used part number "F1Y1-42-76X - Pad, Insul." According to the receipt, it took 1.2 units total time to perform the recall. .5 of that they charged to me for the exhaust. Lame.

Somebody mentioned a little earlier that Mazda authorized .6 units to do the work. The 1.2 they took, minus the .5 they charged you leaves them at .7--seems like they were trying to break even. I claim ingorance though because I have no idea how long it should take.

Hmmm simple question about this recall.

The stuff they are inspecting or doing, will they notice my Unorthodox underdrive pulleys? If so will that cause me some warranty "issues"? I just don't want to have to put the stock ones back on just for this recall, and then take then swap them yet again.

They only need to lift the hood to put the sticker on.

I'm new here - hope I'm in the right place. The immobilizer system has shut me down in the golf course parking lot. I locked key and transmitter in the car on a hot day. Used the second key to unlock the door, and now my 8 won't start. I thought disconnecting the battery for several minutes would reset the system but it didn't. Any suggestions?

Gary, probably best to start a new thread for this one... it's probably a bit off topic for this thread and if you start a new thread you'll probably have more of a chance of getting some help as your request for help won't be buried in the 44 pages of this thread.

I had the recall work done on my car two days ago (Friday, July 29).

I asked to speak to the service manager about this. He had no explanation for the "missing memo" but indicated there were some absences in the back office, along with the fact that since they're so large (>300 dealerships in 18 states), sometimes things fall through the cracks. I told him that he should investigate where the process broke because of the seriousness of the matter.
How in the world their records would allow them to be looking for a car that they sold six days ago is beyond me...
Explanation: probably backlogged data entry due to back office personnel absences.
. . . I should plan to be there for about 90 minutes. (Again, my car is in Group 2.)
My car went into the bay shortly after 8 AM and was pulled out before 8:25 AM. I watched almost the entire time from the doorway.

The tech installed the new firmware and then I saw the tech inspect the area around my tailpipes with a pen light. The car was not lifted, nor was anything removed (even partially) to get a closer look.

Is it possible to perform a Group 2 inspection in such a short amount of time and without putting the car on a lift? I'm concerned that a number of the items shown in the instructions were not done properly.

Am I being paranoid?

Oh, and before I drove off the lot, I noticed they forgot to affix a recall sticker under the hood. I had to go back to ask them to do that.

I think this is good advice... In case anyone wonders why I am trying to "beat the letter," it's because I purchased and took delivery of my car during the "suspend deliveries" period because my dealer "supposedly" didn't get the memo from MNAO (or mishandled it).

I ordered a cargo tray, which should arrive this week. I'm not opposed to having them do the inspection again correctly while I'm picking up the accessory... but if y'all think I'm being too nitpicky, I'll drop it.

Thanks everyone!!

There was never a hard copy letter.

Dealers are notified of TSB's and recalls via mass e-mail.

sharward--YOU'VE GOT A NEW CAR-what heat damage did you think would be caused in a weeks time. Did you want them to pull the gas tank to look for thermal damage. Be happy they did the new flash and got you out in 25 minutes.

sharward if you are uncomfortable witht eh inspection they did then talk to them and get tehm to do the whole inspection according tot he instructions. They need to do it correctly.

grapes- They have been given instructions on how to perform the inspection to insure the safety of the vehicle. These have been included witht the info to the Federal Government as the steps that will be taken to ensure the safety of the vehicles. It doesnt matter if the car came of the assembly line the very last day of the dates affected by the recall. it doesnt matter if the car only has 4 miles on it. There are steps they have to follow. If they didnt do it correctly on this car how many others did they not do correctly? Maybe they wont do the group 1 cars correctly either. Then you could have what happened to Expo where you have a service guy only doing the inspection for group 2 cars on a group 1 car and not putting onthe blanket or doing the flash.
