Have you tried to reset the computer via the tap the brakes 20 times? Or..was that 10?

Anyways, maybe the computer needs to re-learn your driving pattern..not sure if this will help with your miles..but..11.5mpg is not good when you only have roughly 1000 miles on it..something is not right..

After the break in, I've just started to redline it and my last tank gave me 14.5 mpg. Tank before that was 13 so I think it is improving. For reference, my Miata used to consistently give me 21 mpg. I always use Chevron gas as well. I was well aware of the mileage issues so I'm not surprised. It is a sports car so what kind of mileage can you realistically expect? Certainly not 21 like my Miata, perhaps 17-18. So really what we're talking about is 3-4 mpg, or about 6 bucks per tank, which is 30 bucks every 1000 miles. It's nothing I'm going to worry about and a small price to pay for a really unique and fun engine.

More troubling is that I've been checking oil religiously and I find it difficult to read the dipstick, I mean the stick is the color of oil for crying out loud. I thought it was full and the more I looked at it the more I realized that I was down almost a 3/4 of a quart. It's really a pain to check it at night too. I found myself using my cellphone as a flashlight. Couldn't get the stick back in.

I thought I was the only one who hard a hard time seeing the oil level on the stick!! What a pain in the ...!!

I check my mileage every time I fill up, and I average about 19-20 mpg. Very average mileage figures, but I knew these cars were thirsty when I bought mine two months ago.

I had a good buying experience from Autobarn Evanston, but their service left something to be desired. On the other hand I had a terrible experience when I went shopping at Schaumburg Mazda, but their service dept. has been pretty good to work with. You might have better luck with them (or somebody else).

Can't see how this would help but stranger things have happened. I'll try it.

The only thing I can come up with is that it is the gas formulation sold in our area or a sensor is feeding the wrong information to the ecu causing the engine to run rich.

Are you comming to the meet on Tuesday?
Can you give me details on the Chicago area club? I am interested. Raptor 75, I also bought my car from Autobarn. Their service sucks. They are the morons that replaced my battery and screwed up my stereo. I just took it to Roto Mazda to see if they are any better and I wasn't impressed. The only dealer I have taken it to thus far that seems ok is Biggers, but I haven't had them fix anything yet. They have done my oil changesand are very inexpensive. Autobarn wants $35 for an oil change and Biggers was $17.

Hit this link for the local club, just meet them for the 1st time myself.

I call Mazda North America and complained about the lack of service they pointed me to a dealer downtown or one in Highland Park. I'll be setting up an appointment soon.

I think for oil changes I'll bring mine to the local jiffy lube, close, fast and around $24, at least I can watch them do it. After 5K I also plan to switch to Royal Purple and don't want to deal with a hassle from the dealer about it.

I put gas in when the needle nears empty, while I am gassing up I check the oil... I close the hood, hang up the nozzle. Hop in and away I go...

Never even look at the pump really, don't give a damn about the milage. Just doesn't matter. I pay my Amex at the end of each month and the gas is on there somewhere.

Seriously, why the big discussions? No one here bought the car because of it's fuel Milage. hell a Z06 is more fuel efficient. We knew it got shiddy milage but we bought it cause of it's other traits. So screw it, put gas in when it needs it, same with oil, enjoy the ride and have fun!

Don't suck all the enjoyment out of a Sports Car. Doing so is kinda missing the whole point.

Yeah 11.5 sounds low, pisser. Get a second opinion from a second dealer and move on.

I know I know new guy and all of that... I'll go back to my corner...

20 times with the key in the on position and don't forget to hold the trip reset for 5 seconds and then switch the key to on. I do that everytime i change my oil and i have always gotten 18-20 in the city and 23-24 on the highway. i redline at least twice to and from work and run around 85 on my short interstate drive. oh yeah, that's on 87 octane.

I would consider your lack of interest in money spent and potential mechanical issues to be unwise. To not look at the pump numbers is the equivalent to sticking your head in the sand.

I find it difficult to enjoy something that is not performing normally, I want to know why. This car will be with me for the next 10 years at the cost of gas today that is $6,350 more I'll spend then if the car got 16mpg as opposed to 11.5mpg. Now we all know gas will very likely shoot up in price over the next 10 years so this number will more then likely be in excess of $10,000. Yet this is no problem for you because you don't even look at the pump. Hmmmm.

I love the car but throwing away $10,000 is plain foolish. I will continue to enjoy and pursue a fix for this problem.
