No don't get me wrong. I get the joke and understand the motivation. but when it gets made "sticky" in the section called "troubleshooting" when there is no actual stick post with real methods it only adds to the overall problem. there are people (as you can tell thru reading this post) that don't get it, still don't search, and are lost. That is my only point.

BTW on a side note after the rex having not been running for over 2 months (to much fun in my new Durango RT) I got it fired up on a beautiful 58 degree February day and drove it down town to see the superbowl stuff. Got quite a few eyes on her. Reminded me I still love the temperamental little thing.

I just bought my 2004 RX8 and it flooded first time I took it out - and has done every time I have driven it since.
For me the pattern is that the car initially starts just fine, I drive it for say 30Km (so engine warm) then stop. If I attempt to then restart the car within say 10 minutes it simply wont re-start.

Workaround I stumbled upon that works for me so far has been not to give it any gas while starting, and not to try cranking more than 2 or 3 times briefly - then to simply give up and walk away and to try again 20 minutes later. Starts like nothing happened every time after the wait (though might blow a lot of blue smoke from my previous efforts)

What is going on here? is my engine flooding, or is something else happening ?
Why is restarting after stopping always a problem whether or not engine has just been given a long run and is warm?

Staarting on a cold start is no problem, but after a little drive I will turn off the car and when trying to start again it cranks for more then it should(4-5 SECONDS SOMETIMES WONT START) I do repeatedly till I can get it running again. Any suggestions would be appreciated thank you1

Help!!!
My 8 just will not start, not a crank just a click. It started happening a couple of weeks back. All it would do is click click, but if I clicked the key on and off eventually it would start. Now it wont start at all. I've had it all checked by a garage and they can;t find anything wrong with the starter motor or battery and seem to think it may be the alarm system. Has anyone had the same problem and posted a reply. I've had a look through but cant seem to find anyone with the exact same problem

Most of the replies are either battery or starter motor, which I've already had checked and are both fine. I just wondered if anyone had any ideas I could get the garage to check through rather than taking it to the dealer. That'll cost me an arm and a leg. I'll have to have a word with the garage and ask them to step through the diagnostics bit by bit. Hopefully we might find what's wrong. Luckily they are friends and wont charge the earth for it I was hoping that I would find some kind of answer on here but all I've got is yourself saying search! lol. I've searched but its like looking for a needle. Site could be better with posts on separate issues, maybe it has but for someone who is not technical minded and doesn't know what keywords to type in it doesnt help much.

Engine is fried, you will need a rebuild. Stop beating on it till you can afford one the less damage to your internals the cheaper the build will be.

When mine won't start, which may or may not be the dead engine syndrome, I put the throttle to the floor.

This cuts fuel supply. I do that for a couple of seconds and then as you come back up it seems to start more easily.

Won't do any good long term if engine stuffed - as mine may be - but save you flattening your battery. (Also the pedal to the floor can work if flooded ... I think - I was having that problem about 9 months ago and this seemed to work.)

Hey all, my partner just purchased a Rx8 and only had it for a couple days.. Its an 2004 Manuel..

After two days the car wont turn on at all..

Its been in the mechanics for 2 weeks now and they still haven't fixed it

Ok so its not turning over but wasn't getting a spark so we check it if it was flooded but its not..
The plugs have been changed and now put a new crank angle sensor on it and its sparking but not turning over..??

When it happened the car was driving and it just shut off like it was running out of fuel..

Any help would be amazing please help folks

You blew an apex seal, get a compression test.

Check if fuel is getting to the engine - try to start then remove spark plugs . If they are dry then - no fuel .
Have they checked the fuel pump ?

Does your mechanic know anything about RX8s ?

Im not a wiz when it comes to cars but i know its getting fuel so its not the pump its something to do with the relay back from the crank angle sensor.. Well that's what i got told..

Ive got a Mazda specialist come tomorrow to look at it.. so over it ive had two different mechanic shops look at it and now this dude fuckkk

If you were driving along and all the sudden felt a fuel cut most likely you blew an apex seal.

It could be another issue but a compression test is only $130 so do that before you go paying more "specialists" to diagnose your car.

Unhappy PLEASE HELP!! Car clicks once when trying to start!

I have a 2005 RX8 manual shift. It ran the best for a while but after a couple months it began to crank a few extra times before firing up. I drove it for a few hours one night, shut it off for about 30 minutes to go eat, and it wouldnt start back up nor even crank. All I could get was one click every time I tried to start it. I tried to jump it off and still nothing changed. The next day I came back and it started after a few cranks. I then had the same problem a few days later but unfortunately still can't get it to start or crank. I took it to a mechanic who said it needed a starter and wanted 400 dollars for the job. I am afraid it might be an engine problem and don't want to waste the money when it will fix nothing. Someone please give me an opinion. Thank you!

id be thinking battery issues?

After eating was the weather cold? generally batteries fail when the weather becomes cold.

The next when you went back was it warmer?

Reason being if your motor is dead, it wouldnt just be a single crank.

Id suggest borrowing a working battery from another car, attaching the Positive and Negatives and see how it starts.

If that changes nothing and you dont want to pay 400 dollars for the starter then get a compression check done which will still cost you money to confirm your engine's health. If engine is still good you will need to shell out 400 for the starter still, if its dead then you will be shelling out alot more for a new motor. Either way money needs to be spent.
