Hot Smell and Radiator light

Hi Folks,

New on the forum. Just bought an '04 231. Loving it! Generally a jap car man, Skylines's, GTO's and Evo's, but loving the RX8, a joy to drive

Now the Title would appear to be obvious - Hot Coolant Smell coming from the car minutes after driving it. Radiator light on BUT still plenty of coolant in the car (3/4 full) and the temp gauge never reads high...

Going to attempt to clear coolant bottle for the dodgy sensor or just replace it but other than that, looking for some suggestions as to why I would have these 2 syptoms but an ok water reading! Scared to drive it incase the water temp isn't showing a true reading from internal to the engine!

Thanks guys.

Steve

The factory temp gauge does not move until 240F so it doesn't help much IMO so it is possible you are overheating a bit and not even knowing it. A 240F you are possibly doing permanent damage to your motor. The smell is probably from the overflow tube on the reservoir. Pressure is building up and a bit is coming out of the vent hose.
