Help: CEL on & other small issues
The CEL just came on after i just bought my rx-8 used off a dealer.
it has 45k miles and i drove about 40-50 today.
2004 model.
any ideas why the CEL would come on?
also when i turn my car off completely i hear a popping/cracking noise coming from the back, i'd say from the exhaust or.... trunk?
1 pop/crack every 30-50 seconds and heard about 5?
does anyone else's shift **** seem to rattle/rumble when in neutral?
i'd really appreciate any knowledge concerning these issues. thanks

the popping noise has not =[.
it's coming from under the hood when the car is off and parked.
do you think its a problem?
also the CEL came back on! GRRR!
any solutions on how to change the gas cap or a thread to helpful tips?
i want that darn light off permanently !

You might have to go to the dealer and get a new gas cap. I'm assuming that when you put it on, you turn it so that it clicks about 5 times? If not.........make sure you do.
You should probably get the code read anyway just to be sure that was it.
Ticking after shutoff.............this is more than likely just metal(exhaust) going through temp change and is okay.
Check your oil and make sure it's up to the full mark, but don't overfill it.
Shift **** rattle...........that's relative.......it will shake some, we'd have to see a video to tell you if it's excessive. If the whole car shakes that's usually motor mounts, but you just said the shifter, so it will shake a little. Rattle implies noise.......is it making noise?

i'm going to the dealership on monday to talk to him about my issue, and im going to have the mechanic show me the code so i can write it down and show you guys what it reads.
yes when i screw in my gas cap i make sure it clicks quite a few times.
actually the whole did shake at a point but thats when i first purchased the vehicle.
after a couple hundreds of miles i'd say it's not too bad but again im going to keep a feel out for it again so i can keep you updated.
but the shift **** would shake or "rumble" would probably be a better term to explain it.
ill record it so you guys can tell me if its severe or not.
thanks

^..............it could be the motor mounts, that's usually shakes the car enough where people can stand to be sitting in it. You didn't make it sound that bad, so I guess we would have to see.
if the code comes up that it's the "small evap leak", then have him replace the gas cap.
