FYI, my problem was resolved; discovered it was a loose alignment bolt.

Another thing to check, had something similar drive me crazy for a while and finally discovered that the bolts used to mount the crossbrace to the rear of the front subframe were loose on one side.

Hey, I have this now too.. which alignment bolt was loose?

I recently had an alignment done as well, and similar symptom described. Doesn't make sound from static lock to lock turning. For me, it's going in reverse at slow speed, on full lock, it randomly and suddenly will make a loud BANG like something snapped, but everything looks fine, and the car drives fine.

Not sure which specifically, but it was between the front camber or caster bolts; both I believe are attached to the lower control arms.

So did you have the noise just like how I describe it? It's not a constant clicking, it's a sudden loud BANG.... but it'll keep rolling. The bang can be felt through the passenger side, floor.

Yes, same noise. I can't recall if it could be physically felt through the passenger side.

If your bolts were loose and obviouslty you had driven around on them to realize the problem, would the alignment setting be changed? Would I need another alignment after they are tightened? But then if you need another alignment, then they have to be loosened again.. LOL.... hahaha

Did Anyone figure this out?

Sorry to resurrect a decade old thread but did anyone figure out what the cause of the noise was? I am experiencing the same issue on my Series 1. I recently went in a few months ago for having the ball joints changed by the dealer as the recall was never done by the previous owner. The car had blown rear shocks when I bought it and it already made a clunking noise. I am not sure if the noise was there before or after as I noticed it more when I replaced my rear shocks a few days ago.
