Fuel - What to use?
Hi!
First off all, Im from norway and here's what we've basically got;
Regular 95octane
Shell V-power 95octane
Regular 98octane
Shell V-power racing 99octane
Ive been running the v-power 95octane since they dont sell the v-power racing wher I live.
Ive been reading around on the net and watched a couple of films showing the "cleansing" effekt of the v-power against regular fuel.
BUT, I kinda feel like it doesnt run as good as the regular 95octane, and it smells a bit worse from the exaust.
Could it be something in this? Or should I visit the doctor? =>
Ive never really tried the 98octane, does it really matter?
The reason i wanna run the v-power is obviously because of the better care its suppose to take of the engine.
Is there any logigal reason for the rotary to run poorer on this fuel?

The 8 should run just fine on 95 octane. Unless you're running FI, I don't really expect you'd get more power out of 98, so save your money.
V-power has additives in it, which is why it's going to smell different at your tailpipe, but it shouldn't be detrimental to your engine.
I am very skeptical of the amount of benefit detergent gasolines have on your engine, especially when considering the increased price. If i were going to run it, I'd fill up with a tank of v-power once a month or so and run the RPM's high to clear the carbon from the seals

How does Norway's gasoline octane rating system compare to Americas? You normally only see 85- 89- and 91 octanes in the US.

I am kinda skeptic too, but the prising is only marginal higher than the regular, I would like to run the v-power in good belief but I feel i doesnt run as good as with regular fuel, I was really wondering if this could be true/logical.. 
And with the octane rating, Im really not sure... => Sounds like your soupe is quite weak but its maybe just different ratings, So it could have the same properties.

it vary's +/- .50 Cents U.S. Seattle area just jumped up .30 cents to 2.50 for 92 octane in the last week. Regular typical is -20 cents from our 'premium' grade 92'...

Past engine seemed to run lean, apparently very lean.
Anw.... with the new engine on i decided i will use 100 octane hi quality fuel from EKO (greek company operating in Cyprus as well). With the past engine i used to use 98 octane from a particular station.
With the new engine i did about 1000km and consumption is much better than in the past, here is my consumption compared with the old engine:
NEW ENGINE
100 octane abt 15L/100km
98 octance abt 15,5-16L/100km
OLD ENGINE
98 octane 17L/100km
I read somewhere in the forum that fuel hi in octanes are more difficult to choke therefore driving in low RPMS (i.e. city driving) should have negative effect in consumption.
I have to say that with the new engine up until now i didn't redline. MAX 5K RPM.

Now i am running with 98 octane but i will switch to 100 due to the fact that 100 oct is little more expensive and you are supposed to get the most out of the renesis.
P.S: in europe we use octane and in US you use rons. just a different metric system.

In US, our retail octane rating is derived as (R+M)/2. It's the average of the Research and Motor Octane. Speaking of which ((R+M)/2), I usually run 87. I ran higher for awhile based on condition of my original spark plugs, but I've since returned to 87. It seems more than adequate and gives better mileage for me.
