OK what is it?

I (and significant other) spotted something under the car. After driving about 60 miles I get home and find it is a piece of foam "rubber" about 2ft long, 1.5-2 inch wide and 1/4 inch thick sticking half way out under the front of the engine compartment. It looks horribly like some sort of air filter.

Anyone know where it should be. Maui is home to a lot of volcanic dust so am a little concerned. It looks like very rough air filter material as if it were a pre filter for something. The real air filter is nice and new and clean.

Any thoughts???

Oh and, for the record, I did do a quick search. And as I always say thanks for helpful comments!!!

Likely the seal from around the radiator ...is it grey foam?

 

Sounds about right. Have just found cable herewith pictures....

Is it important and is it easy to fit????? Please says it is easy.
