Finish rebuild, car starts, car revs, but wont hold idle.

With the Renesis, the factory heat range RE7C-L and RE9B-T are the best plugs to use with porting and even a small turbo kit such as the GReddy system. Once you tune the engine and turbo system for higher boost than the GReddy kit delivers out of the box, you want to use a pair of NGK BUR9EQPs in the lead position and a pair of RE9B-Ts in the trailing position.
Good advice as well. Thanks.

Finally got my Cobb in last friday. MM is a good guy but slow.....
Waiting a month for it, long story short I replaced the stock cat back with a high flow one. The honeycomb that was in my cat broke apart and was clogging the stock exhaust causing major gas smells to come in the car and added a major loss of power over 5k rpm.
Lowered the car with Tein springs. So it has a nice drop that cleans up the wheel well gap.
Installed MM base map took one data log over the weekend , and will take the other today after work as i will need it for my submission this evening. I'll post the data logs this evening or tomorrow.
Downloaded the Race Tuner program and took the stage 1 Cobb map and adjusted the idle tables. I set the idle table to run at 1200 rpm. Saved the map as a new file ,installed in my car and now my CAR IDLES!!!!!!! The AP is worth every penny!
I can actually drive my car normal now without holding my foot on the gas at every light!
When monitoring, this is what I saw. I am running anywhere on my AFR 13.7-16.5. those are numbers south of 6k rpm. Anything north of 6k rpm it climbs and peaks to around 20 and the car starts to bog around 8600-9000. It does it more so when the car is warm.
Am I leaning out or is it to rich?

Jeff is not slow, the process is slow. Expect 5-6 submissions or more.

AFR climbing up to 20??? Thats super lean, and I am surprised you have not blown yet. Unless your off throttle, in gear and decelerating you shouldnt be anywhere above 14.7-15.0, Should cruise in the 14's, and mid to low 13's for high load and drop into the 12's during the peak Torque band and high RPM WOT.

Before Jeffs tune I was running the stage 1 Cobb tune , I read it again and you are right without being on the throttle it registered 20.0. Full throttle did take me into scary territory of 18.0-18.7.
Installed the first tune and I absolutely love it! My AFR's are back where they should be. Cruising speeds I am in the 13.8-14.2 range. WOT it dipped down to 11.8.
The car idles at a sweet 1200 rpm now. Acceleration is brisk and throttle response is spot on. Amazing what a tune makes! I have to give him my next submission this Thursday.
Once fully tuned , I will run it on a dyno. However I did notice something of interest. On my commute, from the traffic signal that lets you get on the on ramp to the highway. At the end of the on ramp there is a merge left sign. In the past 6 years i could run my stock RX-8 from the signal light to the sign at the end of the on ramp and hit 92-93 mph religiously. No high rpm clutch dump, just from idle mash the gas and go through the gears as fast as you can. Today for the first time I actually hit 100 mph!
Its possible this 5 hole bridge port job combined with Jeffs tune is working out for the better. I am really looking forward to getting my car on a dyno to find out once the car is completely tuned by Jeff.

HAHAHA...no Jeff is not slow , only when it comes to getting your AP. Its all good, Jeff knows I am just giving him a hard time! His work invaluable to me , to you and to the RX-8 community.

After a few WOT updated tunes, post your data logs. What most people are going to look at is MAF readings. Here is a snap shot of mine. This was a 2nd to 3rd run and gear shift similar to what I would do on the track. 270-280 GPS of air in the 8K RPM Range. NA Street ported motor, BHR coils, AEM intake, shorty header and no cat 3" exhaust.

Wow, those numbers are super lean, you should not have driven in like that. I hope you didn't do any damage. I'm glad you got it sorted, I'd like to see what numbers you put down to see if that effort was worth it or not.
If I were you I would take it easy until you are fully tuned man. Is the engine even broken in yet?

I plan on taking it easy till its fully tuned, just this morning I wanted to feel the new tune. It felt great and its definitely noticable when the right foot is planted. But for now my focus will be getting my car tuned fully, its good to know that the tune works though.

Glad to hear he got you sorted out. Should have been using MM's base tune instead of the Cobb Stage 1. 18 Afr is very scary. Should have enever been in the 15+ under throttle.

How do you like the header set up on your rotary? That was my next mod I wanted to get.

Everything is hooked up right the car runs it has a fresh rebuild i used racing beats streetporting templets and sent the pcm to racing beat for a rev 3 flash .The car runs great on the interstate just wont idle.It idles on cold start but after about a minute the idle starts to bounce and then it dies. When the car is hot it bounces twice as soon as it starts and dies as if u turnef of the keys.
