Good luck with the rebuild Ray, we'll see you in a few days.

phil---you tried a secondary radiator placed up front? I know MM cant do that due to his intercooler. The front bumper support actually works as a heat sink also with my set up--you tried that?
If you did and temps are still not controlled --need a bigger secondary radiator?
Only thing left would be a damn co2 sprayer and thats not partical.
dmannnn!

I see that MM has two but I know we tried it but I don't remember the configuration and actual locations. Hell who knows after the rebuild I man no have that problem (yea and the pope aint Catholic)

MM had to mount his inside the engine compartment. he has a fan on it and as far as i know he is running the stock thermostat. he also doesnt use the heater hose to feed it.he cant mount his up front because of that big old intercooler he has up there.
You have to move the second rad up front for the coolest possible air flow and lots of it. You simply make a hanging aluminum strip hanger for each end of the cooler and drill the front bumper support to bolt it on. Mount it with these hanger type mounts. see my pics in the pettit thread.
there is also a reason to use the return heater hose--its a non thermostat controlled source so coolant will flow all the time this way. A tad longer to warm up
but otherwise you are not even aware of this.
That is why mine is running too cool in these low ambients. to fix this i just hook the heater hose back together --disconnecting my 2nd radiator for the winter. its a 5 min job.
the position of this second rad and the source of its coolant is critical.

I forgot to mention I am using 10w40, and have an oil temp gauge installed.

different people have different ideas about the actual temp that is best before you place a load on the engine. some say 140F some say 150 and some say 160.
the basic principle is correct. the oil and coolant need to be warm before the engine is subjected to any type load.
load is defined as the work the engine has to do. so if the car has stopped its warm up cycle(rpms at idle down) it is ok to "drive" the car. yet i do not go over 3K or place much throttle on the car until my temps are at 140-160 range.
the engine really needs to operate above 160 F to take care of the water etc produced while running.

I have a couple of cores on their way home :p
I guess that if a mazda inspectors visits me he'll think of smuggling seeing parts everywhere :D
As long as a rebuild costs about 7000€ here, and a new engine 9800\12000€ i guess that people will prefer a law student doing it for fun and a pizza
Phil is so lucky having Ray there, i wouldn't want myself as my own engine rebuilder

Nether would I Oh I just had to say that, I could not pass it up. Ray has been the only outside mechanic to touch my engine since I started modding it. Jeff has been it's tuner ever since modding started also. Some how I got it right the first time.

new day = new pic. C'mon Easy, your'e slacking!

Lucky you
there's no rotary tuner here in italy... i had to teach my mechanic how to do stuff (he has a good shop, even paying him i end up even because of the tools he has) but i rebuild\tune\do stuff that can be done on jackstands for me and my friends.
Well, everybody calls me from everywhere so i must be at least FUNNY to watch
Btw if i'm now able to do the stuff i do is 80% Charles' merit and 20% madness (or my "scottish" side that makes me do stuff instead of paying others?)
