Engine turning no spark
Ok I know this compression issue keeps coming up but this is messed. Mazda messed up and said nothing was wrong. Cat exploded caused a fire. I got cat replaced. Ten it started and gas was running out exhaust. Ten they replaced the coils. Car would start and run but still took more turning of ignition than usual and very weak idle. Took it back and they said spark plugs. So got the spark plugs replaced and they said that it was def fixed all was good. 2 days later it barely starts. The car turns and turns but barely starts. No smoke when it starts and it seems to lag when driving. Compression test was supposedly all around 8.0 and 7.7 done in Mazda. What the heck Is going on????????

Having the same problem kinda. So far I changed the camshaft placement Sen. New spark plugs fuel pump coils and seafoamed it. Turns out all I had to do was turn the key on not to crank but just on. Hit the break 20 times pretty quickly watch for the oil Gage to move. Turn the car off for 30 sec and it runs perfect.

That being said it sounds like you have all the usual suspects replaced ....
And while you maybe didn't require all that new stuff ... seeing how it's a 2004 probably not a bad thing to get done.
Now lets try something that shouldn't cost you any money or very little depending on your mechanical prow-less
Teamflash2008 might be on to something ... however its not a camshaft sensor .. our engine doesn't have a camshaft ... but we do have a Eccentric Shaft ...
Which has a Eccentric Shaft Sensor (ESS)
The sensor is a external magnetic pick up located on the bottom pulley on the front of the engine.
The ESS is used by the computer to indicate the position of the eccentric shaft ... if this sensor gets dirty or has a piece of metal stuck to it ... the car will not idle or perform very well.
The 20 brake stomp procedure resets the ESS however if its dirty the car will show no improvement.
Cleaning the ESS in not hard ...
Here is a pic of a dirty ESS (mine)
You might try cleaning the Maf sensor as well ... .easy and cheap.
And free bump .... see if someone else has any ideas

i was just curious, mine is kinda sluggish to start as well getting worse, at first i thought it was my optima battery that i got earlier this year, cause a friend told me they are prone to cracking, and i am still going to check that out when i get home tonight, but i was wondering if your car beeps 3 or four times when it finally does start, becuase mine does and its only when i start it cold and its sluggish, if i drive somewhere and start it up again while it is still warm, it starts up fine and no beeps.
wtf.
oh and mine is a 2005 sport. manual.
