DS Drive Shaft Boot Leaking

While changing brakes today, I discovered some grease around the inside Driver's Side drive shaft boot. It is the boot connecting the D/S shaft to the rear diff. Upon inspection, I found a 1/2" tear in the boot which must be flinging the grease out. No sure how long this has been going on. The car has 43.5K miles on it.

What are my options? Will the warrantee cover it? Can I change the boot or does the whole shaft have to change?

Thanks in advance...

Mazda should cover the repair if the damage is due to boot failure and not due to foreign object impact. If your dealer is customer friendly, they will likely do the work under warranty. Of couse, if they won't cover it under warranty, and you are mechanically inclined, get a copy of the workshop manual and go for it.

Take it in...the boot is easily and inexpensively changed. The whole shaft will only need to be replaced if you drive it like that for a long time and it gets dirty and contaminated.....
