Coolant Going Down In Bottle Does It Evaporate?
Just after some advice and thoughts on this one..
When I got my new 8 10 months ago I checked the Coolant Level in Bottle from the factory..I put a Black Pen Mark on the Full area.
Naturally, the Coolant rises and falls with expansion on a Hot or Cold Motor, like your engine oil.
What I have noticed in the 9000 miles I have done is the level has very slowly dropped by about a good quarter to nearly half an inch.
So, I don't have any spare FL-22 and knowing this Factory mix is Very Strong, I topped up with De-Mineralized Water, it took close to a cup (250 mil) to go back to my original Black Pan Mark on Bottle, when Cold.
Remember I have been through a Hot Summer , Fall and Winter, now in Spring.
It's been a while since I owned a rotary that was not a Demo, is it normal to use Coolant, I guess there is Evaporation over time through the pressure cap and overflow.
I have no visual leaks or dry coolant spots anywhere.
DOES COOLANT EVEPORATE?...ANYONE KNOW?
Would appreciate advice from you guys..

So where you smelling any coolant in the oil? or at least when the engine started up should have smelled coolant burning in the exhaust.

Swoope...
So I guess it can evaporate, I know what Coolant entry is, I could have a Fine Internal leak, but you generally get a build up of GUNK in your coolant bottle (mine is OK).
Or it gets worse and hard to start like Al said...bit like a blown head gasket in a banger.
Surprised no one who does there own servicing can't or won't chip in...

Rotary Crawfish
fill the coolant bottle with pure FL22, it has a very low evap rate. If water is added to the jug it will evap rather quickly, my car did the same thing until I went to pure coolant in the jug.

first small coolant leak at the upper rad connection that goes to the overflow tank. my fault. i didnt put it back..
second, a bit of overheating on a very tight time attack course when i did not get a point by after two laps.. i have it data logged.. not very pretty...
but i did have the hose extended to under the car as opposed to on top of the steering connectors..
with your year and mileage i would be looking around a lot!
