COLD start anyone?
This morning was the coldest morning thus far at a whopping -27 degrees. I went outside to turn my '8 on to let it warm up and it just sounded and was running horrible, I had never herd a car sound like this. It was almost as if the rotor was having troubles turning, THUB THUB THUB. My '8 only has 2600 kms and is only 1 month old. Has anyone else who lives in the extream cold experenceing this? Please let me know so I know weather or not to go and have it checked out. Thanx

Car started a little rough but not too slow. It was making a weird noise from the right side while warming-up, some wierd ticking that followed the RPM. All became normal after fully warm though. I am thinking to use premix for extra lubrication in these temps....

Heh... cold start threads popping up like crazy with this cold front, anyway...
I started mine this morning when it was about 5 degrees F out. It definately ran rough... I think this is normal though for rotaries, i know my Dad's 88 rx-7 used to sound like a cat with a hairball warming up in the cold. What I am surprised about though is that the rx8 doesn't seem to warm up as well. That '88 would pin the tach well over 2 grand iirc and not come down till it was pretty warm. The 8s barely go above 2 grand and come down to about 1.5 almost immediately.
To help the warm-up this morning I held the throttle steady around 3k. The actual RPM was jumping around +/- about 300 rpm while I did this... so I held it till it was smooth (about a minute). I figure that's good enough to get goin.. I'm definately not gonna put load on it if its running that rough, but once smooth I'd say its got the fluids flowing and enough parts up to temp to not harm anything.

I find the RPM's in my 8 cycle in cold weather. It starts by reving from 2.5k to 3k. This continues for about half a minute or less. Then it repeats the cycle at a lower RPM. It almost seems like it's programed to respond in that manner. Whenever this happens I let my car warm up for a good 10 to 15 minutes before driving, or at least until the rev's come down to 1k.
