Clicking while backing up.

I've searched for a few hours but haven't found any info. I'm just wondering what the clicking from my front tires is while backing up. I actually never noticed it until my father pointing out and said "WTF is that clicking?".

I told him it was the TC or DSC and drove off. (He's always looking for reasons to debunk this car)

Anyone else heard of, or have a similar problem. It sounds to me like CV Joints, but this car DOESN'T have them!!

I have an '05 with barely over 30k miles.

You only hear the clicking backing up? Is the clicking constant or vary depending on vehicle speed? Both sides or just one side? The DCS does not make a clicking sound more or a thump.

Is it a single click when you start in reverse? Or does it click continuously as long as you're going in reverse?

I get the same thing when backing up from standing still. It seems that the klunk comes from the front left wheel. Klunks only once when I backup, almost everytime.

That's the ABS self test... normal.

Actually, when I'm turning into my complex, I heard it kind of stutter like a CV Joint. It was just more noticeable when I was backing up.

I've never tested it for too long. As I remember, it only clicks a few times. But it's a loud thunk kind of sound. Loud enough for my dad to scowl and wave his arms as I was backing out of his driveway, thinking something was catastrophically wrong.

Really?? That would make a lot of sense. I've been on this site almost every day for over a year, but I've NEVER heard anyone having problems with Axles. Is it an easy fix (ppfftt.. yeah right)? Is there anything I can inspect myself to see what's wrong?

Thanks for you're help.

Nah, it's for sure a LOT louder than that. Definitely something Mechanical.

Seem to agree with John , Having said that when my car was Brand New I heard the ABS self test (first thing) from All wheels, now I hardly ever or never hear it....and No there is not an issue with my brakes.

Could also be that you are getting a slight sticking of your left front Brake Pad against the Brake Disc, can sometimes happen in winter/high humidity after long periods on non use and rust on Disc between Brake Pad.

If the Clunk is only once when you first move then yes...more than likely ABS self Test....in mine the ABS test is/was at about 10 KMH or 6 MPH.
