Cleaning out CAT
I just spoke to the Mazda Service Advisor at my Local Mazda Dealer. Wray Mazda Columbia SC.
Asked him about a clogged cat and if i could just remove it... His response.... and I Quote. "the car wont run.. No back pressure.. your wasting your time and need to replace the car with OEM"
Is this True? I see alot of people on here either remove or clean them out?
Thanks All
Jeff

Yes, it will run without.
Yes, it is good to have a little backpressure.
If you are out of the emmissions warrenty, it is cheaper to get a aftermarket high flow cat, made for a rotary engine, than to buy a OEM. Bad cats are usually burnt out or melted. Not much to clean out.

a. where do you live?
2. the dealership guy doesnt know what he's talking about or he is lying to you when he says only OEM will work.
eleventeen; no back pressure is necessary. the car will run with no back pressure. on a rotary you want the free flowing-ist exhaust you can have

+1 to what's already been said here.
you do not need an OEM cat, the question now is do you want to run catless or with a midpipe
catless usually = louder depending on whether it's resonated
high flow cat = no constant exhaust smell

drop the cat and run a broom handle through it untill you have knocked the catalyst completely out.you now basically have a mid pipe if its clean through. if you decide its too loud at some point then get an aftermarket hi-flow/hi-temp cat.
