Starts but only runs 2-5 seconds

My 04 RX8 has 144K miles on it and had to sit for a year while i worked on it sproatically trying to fix damage from hitting a large whole on the interstate. I finally got it back on its wheels and now it will start and run for a few seconds. Longests I have had it running is 30-45 seconds.

While it was on jack stands. I pulled and cleaned the SSV and dropped the Cat to see if there was any crud on the first screens. SSV is now cleaned and re-installed and the cat looked fine for what I could see. No trash or build up anywhere inside. I have re-checked the connection on the shaft sensor since the engine will start and run or a short time. Still can't seem to find the cause.

My goal is to get it get it running again then have Mazda do a compression test but I can't get it out the garage for this issue. When it was parked it had hot start issues already going and took 20 minutes to re-start usually.

I'm at a loss for keeping it running longer than a few seconds. Any thoughts.

I think it sounds like your fuel pump may be weak.
Maybe try testing your fuel pressure.

By shaft sensor I'm assuming the ESS. Double check that the sensor under air pump is plugged in. When I cleaned my SSV I forgot to plug mine back in and I couldn't run for more than 5 seconds.

Good call, sometimes it's the simple things.
