Question CEL on cold starts

Has anyone experienced this? I have been getting a CEL when my car is left in the cold for a few hours and then started. Maybe its coincidence but its come back 3 times and only after being left out in the cold for 4 hours or more and started.

I recently swapped the factory air filter with a K&N type filter in the stock airbox so I'm thinking that might be the problem but I'm not sure. I have an appt. at the service dept. tomorrow to pull the code but I'm kind of worried about having the intake modified. I don't want them to try and void my warranty for that.

Any ideas?

if all you did was change the filter than you have no worries. if you changed out the stock intake box for the k&n typhoon than that could be a problem. but dont go taking it out before you go for service. if it is a source of the problem than taking it out wont do you any good. because than the service tech wont figure out that its the problem and you are right back wheere you started. or you could cancell the appointment. take out the filter thing and see if the cel goes away. if it does and doesnt come back than you solved the problem yourself and saved yourself atrip to and the expense of dealer service.

Just Guessing But...

The behavior you describe is consistent with the problem that caused Mazda to halt "M" flashes several weeks ago. If your car had an "M" flash since June, or more specifically since 11/04/04, that might be your problem.

I had my car flashed about a month and a half ago. My theory got proved wrong today though because I started it up after work (70degrees) and got my lovely CEL back.

I had an appt. yesterday at 10am but after standing there for 20 minutes without being acknowledged I said fu#k it and left. Just an FYI, Irvine Mazda service sucks.

Sorry to hear that..

Is the CEL constant?

Do you have access to a Can capable scanner?

Maybe a member from the west forum?
