AC is on even when the light is off?
I recently had the HVAC control module replaced because it was going from hot to cold at random.
I just noticed a few weeks ago that the AC seems to come on even when I don't have the option on the display turned on, but only when the vents are in a certain position.
For instance if I have the main vents going the AC is not on unless I press the AC button, but if I put the vents to the floor the AC compressor turns on even when the AC button is showing as off.
I was driving around with the windows down and the vents on the floor blowing just outside air I thought and then I noticed even when it was hot out the air was still cool.
I'm assuming something is wrong with this replacement HVAC module as this cannot be correct. And I kept wondering why I was never getting close to 20mpg on the highway even in the winter with the AC off. Pretty sure it has been on all the time since when heating I'd be using the lower vents.

Oops, was wondering if I should read the manual or not. Dammit.
Since I don't have the manual handy, why does it work like that? I don't remember any car I've ever owned turning on the AC compressor when I've had it deliberately turned off.

Good tip, though apparently you don't have to join to download the manuals.
I could just go down to the parking garage here at work and read the manual, but that would be almost like work.

Hm, I guess that is expected. What a strange setup. It's like they don't trust you enough to know that the AC is needed to dry the air for certain jobs like defrosting.
