Will a 06 transmission work in 04?

My 04 need a new transmission , I bought a 06 one for it. I just got a call from the dealer saying that the starter won't fit in the new transmission saying the opening is too small. You guys have any idea what it can be?

The dealer is saying the 06 starter is the same ,they have no idea why it won't fit.

Stupid dealer I checked the part #'s...and they are the same for the 04's and 06 starters....so it should fit. Do they have the tranny installed correctly??

They trying to blame there is problem with the tranny, but they don't know what it is other than the opening is too small. I am guessing b/c I didn't buy the tranny from them (the one they could find cost $500 more and more miles then one I found.), they trying trick me into buying theirs. I can't call the place I bought the tranny from until Monday.

I had a problem with mine where the same thing happened. I think it got slammed in the starter area when it was shipped or somebody dropped it hard on the ground somewhere along the way because that's where it seemed to be off slightly. The metal there is thin enough to dent inward with enough force. I took a sanding flapper wheel and was able to clearance it enough to fit the starter in ok. I was sweating bullets for a while though. What a relief once it finally went in place, whew ...

I went there to look at there was no dent of any kind. The dealer ended up grinding the area to make enough room. They charged me extra for that hoping to get it back from the person I got the tranny from.
