Well, my water pump failed.
Looks as if the seals in my water pump failed, causing my car to **** coolant alll down the road.
45,000 miles, seems rather early for the pump to go, but thats life.
Mazda is replacing it all under warentee.... Just wanted to give anyone a heads up if they start smelling coolant when driving....I was lucky enough to have it majorly fail when I was coming to a stop.

Perfect time for it to fail - just before the bumper-to-bumper warrenty wears off. I think I've seen a handful of water pump failures here on the board.
When you say fail "majorly" did it dump all your coolent? I thought the others all just found slow leaks - a few green drips in the driveway and so forth. Did yours burst?

Yes it does. At least it has not totally seized up.

I did take a pic but there is so much stuff under there that it is really hard to get a clear shot of the pump .
Just look where the rad hoses go to the engine - that is the water pump . You need to climb under the car to see the hole at the bottom of the pump casting .
Anyone know the correct part no. for the pump ? I'm tring to get one through DPE but he is saying there are 4 different nos for the RX8 ?
