whining when starting

Good Day!

I sent my car in for a cat replacement, which they did, now when I start it it whines really loud! There is an electric motor running that is super loud (sounds like a turbo spooling or something). The motor is located near the passenger side strut tower. It runs for like 10 or 20 seconds and then shuts off. This just started after they replaced the cat.

Anybody know what it is? Is it a problem, or is the car supposed to do this? It never did it before (I've had the car for 1.5 years).

Thanks!

Rob

Air Pump; if it is REALLY loud; check and see that they connected it back the correct way.

its called the secondary air injection pump.... its used to heat up the cat faster with cold starts.... its a tiny electric motor that spins two thin metal "fans." My cat failed on me aswell so i gutted it and now i am running an "oem midpipe." The whine also happens with me so i took the sucker apart and oiled it and made sure everything was balanced.... did nothing... still whines.... i would say do not worry about it........ just every now and then check to make sure the unit is not producing any smoke or is getting hot as that would mean the metal fans are rubbing against the plastic molding....

Hop this helps

I had the same thing, sounds like we all do. It took me a few minutes to convince myself it was nothing, and I was right whaddayano.

Ja, you should have seen Jedis look on his face!

It looked as if he did a dump in his shorts.

I told him its normal.
