Trouble starting and no power over 5,000 rpms

Okay, so I've done some research on this topic and really only found a few people with similar problems. So heres whats going on:

I was driving about a week ago, and I noticed I wasnt getting much power over 5,000 rpms. I also began to hear a raspier tone to my exhuast. Since then I've tried not to drive it as much until i can take it in . I found that I was low on oil, and gave it some oil. It has been weak on starting the car since all of this happened. Whats the verdict guys?

I also heard about a recall of sorts? Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks

^How do you figure? Powetrain warranty is 5yr/60000 mile. Also, the engine warranty was upped to 8yr/100k miles. You're good, take it in. Sounds like the starter for your start issues and coils and plugs for your no power. There was a major recall for lack of power, look it up, there are tons of threads!

definitely sounds like a clogged cat.. the raspier tone note and the no power over 5000rpm issue.

your cat is covered under a federal emissions warranty for 8yrs/80k miles.

hmm... this sounds very familiar. Check your plugs, plug wires, coils etc. My problem was the plug wires but i'm sure one of the above would cause a similar symptoms.

I just took mine in for an oil change and Mazda did a program update on the on-board computer. They told me the update was for "Loss of Power".

You can get the parts for about(get spark plug wires too) $250. It takes about an hour and a half to do it at most, very simple. Got a buddy for support?
