Suffering From a Misfire? START HERE.

Check your fuel pump and fuel pump assembly. Are your battery terminals tight/ free of corrosion?

Misfire

Hey, so I have a few problems with my 2004 Mazda rx8. The first problem is that I have a misfire in cylinder 2. But I changed my coils, plugs and wires and it still says that it is misfiring and it only has 54,000 miles on it. I just don't know what else it could be. The car seems to also shake when in idle. It sounds bad like its vibrating a lot and worried that it could be something serious. The other problem is that when i start my car cold it's ok but when I drive it and shut it off it doesn't want to start back up until I have waited for 20 minutes or so. Any suggestions? Please help

Have you had your engine compression checked? Or have you checked your cat converter? Could be a number of issues, but you'll need to do some reading and troubleshooting in order for us to help you more.

Does the CEL always flash when there is a misfire, or does it sometimes not do it?
I've had misfires both when I have driven over 200+ miles, with the sun on the hood. Both times when I opened the hood it was alot warmer than usual.

Atleast, I got backfire and a poorly performing engine in the higher revs on these 2 occasions. I'm going to change the coils/wires/plugs anyway, but I know if I should trust that when there is a misfire, the CEL will flash me.

Check if your coils are really alright. Did you change the cables aswell?

Can an ignition coil quit when it gets hot? | The H.A.M.B.

The ignition can fail when it gets hot, but work alright at starts. Hence why some RX-8's can't start hot because they either lack compression, or a good spark.

Do you still have a catalytic converter?
Higher rpm hesitation or misfires can be caused by a bad cat.
If you've had misfires in the past, damage to the cat can be expected.
Inspect it ASAP.

Issue starting my rx-8 when cold

Hello everyone my name is Alex and i need help to figure the problem that my car has. My Mazda RX-8 one day started acting up with no power then starting issues. I realized that it could've been the plugs, so i bought the BHR Ignition System got a little more power then but still issues turning on, i went to Mazda and the diagnose for the car was that the catalytic converter was plugged. Bought a BHR pipe without a cat, the car have issues starting when cold. Mazda broke my starter when they were repairing the car so i had to buy a new one. I did a compression test in July and the result that came was excellent engine based on the stats and the info provided for the dealer. My car has now power and runs fine no idle issues whatsoever but the car when is cold does not turn on and I'm getting crazy. I have research a lot to diagnose the problem why the car has issues turning on and i just gave up. You guys are the only source of her i have thank you.

Mazda RX-8 2007 161.000 KM

Weather 6 degrees.

Do you know which starter you have?

And can you describe a little better? Is the engine turning over? Or are you getting no crank?

Issue Starting my rx-8 when cold

The starter is a mazda starter "bought it from the dealer upgraded version" and it works better than the old one, it does crack but it has a hard time turning on, i have to attempt 3 times or 2 to make it turn on. Once the car is hot it turns on without a problem like brand new car, just when its cold its the problem. Thank you for the replay I'm new in this forum but i've got a lot useful info from here.

Suffering From a Misfire? START HERE.

Just to give you a heads up, this is the "suffering from a misfire thread. Though it could be related, I recommend reading the starting issue thread
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...t-here-222584/

Read through the beginning and try some troubleshooting. I believe that your problem is either spark or starter related, causing flooding.
Let's move the conversation to that thread

Check to ensure that your battery terminals are clean and tight.
The terminals can stretch over time and even though the bolts are tightened fully, they can be loose.
I had to shim mine on my '04.

Ok guys I'm having also misfire problems with my RX-8 after running my car at night i push the gas completely and you can see it does not go up more than the 7000 rpms.

here is the video and a description to what i have done to the car, Thanks!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62yw...ature=youtu.be

Update, i removed the plugs and added dielectric grease to make sure the contact is better and the car had a misfire as the video shows this time i got it 7000RPMs in the 4th gear.

the plus and wires where installed properly but still I'm having a lot of issues turning the car on. I will appreciate nay answer or help i getting desperate with this situation.

Ok guys i found the problem i had to change the fuel system at Mazda, my compression went up rotor 1 7.1 to 7.9 and rotor 2 7.1 to 8.3 witch is pretty amazing. The bad thing is that i changed many things and i spent 3400.00 fixing the car.

Replaced the fuel system? What does that mean exactly? And yes diagnosis by parts replacement is never a smart idea.

Yeah i know, first i though it was the BHR ignition system, then the BHR mid pipe. i still had misfire and starting issues when cold, Then i took it to mazda and they tested the pressure of the fuel pump and they replaced it completely not just the pump the gaskets and more stuff that i can remember. My car is really fast now compared how it was previously. I will write down the details of the replaced parts after work.

They probably replaced the entire fuel pump assembly.

Yes, Im guessing that what they did it, the good thing is that the power i got is noticeable. I will not get beat up racing so easily as before.
