I use the steam cleaning method on my FC. I run a gallon of water per rotor. 2 gallons takes less than 10 minutes. I hold the rpms up at around 2.5K-3K. Works great.

It should be noted that I was warned by Rob at Pineapple Racing not to allow the Renesis to consume water at the same rate that is commonly used by the older rotaries. Something about the apex seal being more fragile. So, a gallon in 10 minutes may not be advisable in an RX-8.

But yes, it works great. I'm a believer. Had my car dynoed the other day and made more peak power than I ever have (220). Mid-range is off, though. Running rich.

You get more than that driving on a rainy day.

It's not the volume I was commenting on, it's the rate. 1 gal/10 min (per rotor).

I'm not sure what the upper limit is in terms of a safe rate, but, again, I was warned not to use the same rate as the FC/FD guys.
