Is the speed sensor located on the Trans (specifically the manual) and if so where? If not where is it located?

 

The speed sensors are located at each wheel:

 

speed sensors are ALWAYS at the wheels.

 

and that is what controls the speedo? how does that work if there are four? I thought those were for the ABS, stability and traction control?

 

even in the picture it says ABS speed sensor. I don't have any of that stuff as I swapped the motor into my beetle and need to wire up the Speedometer.

 

Speed sensor is on the tranny.
Three prong connector, white/black&light blue/black&yellow.
Sends pulses to the PCM, which sends a speed signal to the gauge pod.

The VSS is only on the auto tranny... he mentioned "specifically the manual"

 

so the manual car's speedometer gets it;s info from the 4 wheel speed sensors?

If so would I be able to wire in a sensor to the gauge cluster in order to get a reading?

Green/red wire on the back of the radio head unit.

VSS (Vehicle Speed sensor) or transmission speed sensor. After looking for days I found it.

 

that was 9 years ago and yes, that’s the auto trans you’re showing there

i have a 4 speed automatic transmission. 05 rx-8. a diagram would be nice. this thread i think had a picture somewhere but all i got was a black screen. i would like to start a new post but finding how to do that was not successful. also the exact replacement part would be nice to know.
