Has anyone driven through a cold winter with a Sohn adapter fitted and had any issues?

This will be the second winter I am considering taking my 8 out into and I was about to install a Sohn kit before the weather breaks (Western Pennsylvania). My concerns come from the cold oil in the reservoir and lines not being warmed up like it would be coming from the pan before being injected.

I have found plenty of info out there about the correct ways to install and run a Sohn but not much on the possible negative effects extreme cold might have.

Anyone who could shed some light or experience with this is greatly appreciated.

 

I had the adapter on my car through several Chicago winters with no problems.
Of course, I didn't drive it much for that week of sub-0°F temperatures but it was fine as low as 10°F.

 

I've done this for the last 6 years. I don't daily my car, but it sees some winter. No problems. It's really only an issue on cold start, once the underhood temps warm up, the oil flows normally. And the injection rate while you're warming up is super low. The OMP will force even thick, cold oil down the lines.

And this is in Canadian -30F winter.

In my opinnion
It depends on the oil and your OMP map.
I personally use Idemitsu premix, which has a viscosity 52.92cst at 40c (104f)
Compare that to mobil 1 0w-30 has a viscosity of 53cst at 40c (104f)
However mobil 1 has a pour point of -50c (-58f)
Idemitsu only has a pour point of -39c (-38.2f)
They are pretty close in terms of viscosity , and as Loki mentioned, once the underhood temp are up, they will be fine, it usually gets pretty hot.

 

I would premix when it is cold....

Wouldn't hurt anyway...

I do premix with Idemitsu all year round and that is also what I would be keeping in the reservoir for the Sohn.

 

I use a SOHN kit and pre-mix. Been driving in 5*f - 35*f temps the last two weeks with no notable change in oil consumption.

The Epitroch bottles should warm up nicely given the underhood heat of these cars.
