Socal Dyno Day 2009 with Mazdamaniac Tuning - RESULTS

We learned a few things and reinforced things we already knew
1) Spark plugs and coils are VITAL to keeping an 8 running well.
2) Cats can go bad quickly, we think that's why Newcastle dyno'd in the 170 range when last year he was 194 on that same dyno. (he's got about 50k on his car)
3) Tuning DOES help! Look at one of my first pulls and then look at my 202 pull.
Things we learned:
Greddy's turbos are fun and when put together properly can result in some pretty nice numbers.
Apocolypse learned that the greddy intake isn't quite the P.O.S. we thought it was going to be.

i literally lol'd when i saw the airinx but was surprised it did it's job fairly well...
also, that issue w/newcastles cat just reinforced the reason why i didn't step up to the dyno that day - that really sucks, any word if he's gonna have the cat replaced? or is he gonna hop on the supercat/midpipe band wagon?

without them both helping with the install of some of the FI guys and the tuning, a lot of us would be running pretty shitty...
apocolypse would've never known that the people that sold him his turbo kit forgot to send him some parts and konig wouldn't feel as confident as he is now when he goes into boost. They've really helped a great deal...

The dyno run names will tell you approximate baseline #'s. The lower the number, the greater chance it was their baseline. Some cars don't start on #1 because it might have been an aborted run

Interesting - last April on MM's 1.3a tune, early in the AP maps by Jeff, I pulled some high numbers on stock coils. My dyno earlier this month was on Mazsport coils, but my compression is down. It would have been cool to see my flow rate then for comparison to last April. Look at this plot and notice I hit 234 gms/sec. Any comments?

If my car is suffering low compression, then why only last April was I able to hit some high flow numbers. I'm thinking the Mazsport setup might have been part of my trouble this month on the dyno. I only hit 160 rwhp on the Mustang, compared to 200 rwhp on my previous Dynojet dyno.
Maybe I just need to quit squawking and start rebuilding to get my numbers back up. I need to belly up to the rebuild bar! haha

The GReddy intake on their turbo kit isn't "bad", per se.
Its just not optimal and it is almost impossible to get a good tune on it without the tuner being, shall we say, "in da house".
Doing it from a distance is highly problematic.
The Calibration Service that I provide via e-mail is a 98th percentile endeavor.
That last 2% can only happen in person.

There is a certain "tactile" element to a proper tune, meaning that numbers on a screen are only part of it and the rest of our senses help us to know the rest. At the meet I played a game with Jeff, for a bit, which had to do with me hearing the RPM at which misfires occurred when cars were on the dyno while I couldn't see the screen.
I wasn't off by more than a couple hundred RPM the few times I paid attention.
It is THIS level of undertsanding the RX-8/Renesis you guys pay for when the BHR team rolls into town. Which other vendor comes close to this?

Thus effectively ending the existence of our universe as the resonant effect of the exhaust would shatter space-time itself...
OR
You would have at least needed to purchase more pizza, and alcohol the night before...

Hi, Jedi. Did you get a chance to do your planned before/after dyno pulls? Once again, I realize these coils were not intended and are not marketed as a power mod, but when some people (not you) claim dyno proven power increases, I'm nonetheless interested in actually seeing the proof.

to answer ur question brettus, yes i had the blocking plate on, and jeff, with my boost spiking up to 10,if i heard correctly,u did say to goahead and buy a boost controller and just set it at 10psi so it would be a smooth curve in boost since my afr reading was pretty much outstanding?

BHR experienced the first two intermittent coils out of the more than 160 we have shipped out. I had two extras at home so I replaced the bad coils and shipped Jedi his kit back this past Monday. While at the dyno meet we tested the plug wires, harnesses, connectors, and discovered some problematic transistors in the coils.
2 coils from Delphi out of the 160+ coils we have placed in the field. Not perfect but damned close.

all pulls shown reflect my car with OEM coils. We did a few pulls with the BHR coils but immediately noticed something was wrong so we pulled the car off the dyno to troubleshoot.
Yeah, it's a shame about the coils being bad but I seriously can't say enough about how Ray and the BHR crew jumped in to help out.
Damn Ray, you shipped me new coils already?! Hmmm, maybe I'll make it home some time this week and find them sitting on my doorstep. Thanks!

Anyone who purchases anything from BHR should understand that they reserve the right to call us on the phone, PM or email us and ask questions and we'll do whatever we can to assist.

It's kind of like taking your RX8 to a dodge dealership thinking they can fix it simply cause they make cars too.

Of all the coils. the ones that got dyno were the ones that were bad. BhRyou have great service and reputation but// if we gonna buy this we gotta see that they actually work in the dyno. Saying that they are awesome, dont work
