Hymee or sco, can you tell me if keyspan or tripp lite serial-USB adapters happen to be on the list of adapters that work with the scanalyser?

We have sucessfully trialled a LINDY brand serial/usb adaptor. I think Taka bough one of these independantly. Be advised that I also have tested at least one "inexpensive" adaptor that did not work.

We plan on offering an approved serial/usb adaptor at $19 US.

Public API is not in our initial offering, but sco has reminded me where we alluded to is as a future "extra".

Cheers,
Hymee.

Is there an estimated range option like the Mazda 6 and MPV have? That is, based on the last 30km of driving AND the amount of fuel left in the tank there is an estimated distance of xxkm before the tank is empty... I REALLY miss this feature... It was incredibly useful for the 6, which only runs on PULP, when we were driving around the more unusual parts of Australia (ie Normanton)...

Please......

The straight answer is no, this feature isn't in sCANalyser Live 1.0.

You'll notice on the in-car prototype (I posted pics of here https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=377) I have a trip button (short for trip computer) - and this is something I want to implement for my in-car system. How we roll that into sCANalyser in the future hasn't been decided yet. I'm keen on having a decent trip computer in my car so I hope to roll that into a product at some time once I've got it working.

Help me out here guys. My laptop doesn't have a serial port so I have a choice of adding a PCMCIA card with serial port, or using a USB-serial adaptor cable. I assume the adaptor will operate at the USB 1.1 level. So from a datarate standpoint only, which is the best solution for connecting to the sCANalyser and does it even matter? TIA

Data rate doesn't matter. You'll never get close to USB1.1 speeds through RS232.

I've "Sneak Peaked" myself to death... Now I am starting to dream about owning this...

Looks like the release is just around the corner, right? Any dates yet?

We're just about finished crossing t's and dotting i's.

Thought I might share something of interest. We had quite a storm come through last night - I had to shut down everything electrical and disconnect from the internet. So seeing I couldn't do much with the web site or work I had sitting on a desktop PC and was worried about Internet withdrawal symptoms I thought I'd sit in the garage with the laptop and do some more "hacking" to unlock the Mazda proprietary information accessible via WDS. And it looks like I've cracked it. Below is a screen dump from my "hacking" application

Much of this data is available through the standard OBD means, but much of it isn't - such as sensor voltage readings rather than the derived amount (e.g. barometric pressure vs barometric sensor voltage).

Of great interest to tuning applications is the Knocking Retard and Fuel Pulse Width. Much of the other data will be great for troubleshooting problems.

Some of these readings may not be relevant to the RX-8, and some of the numbers above may not be 100% correct as I haven't gone through yet and validated the results, but the hard part is done - getting access to the data. Also there is other data available which I haven't shown here.

So what does this mean for sCANalyser you ask? We'll be adding all of this into sCANalyser Live 1.1 which will be a free upgrade from 1.0. We won't be holding up sCANalyser Live 1.0 to put this in.

But wait, there's more... we still have a couple of surprises up our sleeve for the release announcement - some stuff even Beta testers don't know about.

Yep - That is an announcement of sorts. The final public 1.0 release will be pretty much the release candidate that has been flogged by our beta team. Thanks guys!

Timbo might flog us if we release with some new features that have not been thoroughly field tested!!!! Hahahaha. We have already held this back long enough adding new stuff as we find it. Ship it!!!

Seriously, we want to handle the sales of this via an on-line transaction, and have the web site ready for that. We were hoping to be there by "later this week". I guess we are nearly there.

I thought I would add a little on the quality of the electronics in our hardware. We use "commercial grade" electronics, that are produced using modern surface mounting production techniques. I have included a couple of pics of a bunch of circuit boards, before they have the components mounted, and before they are "broken" up into the individual units. The board shown is actually 15 in total.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Edit: The resolution / clarity of the photo's is purposefully low to protect valuable IP

That tire rev's per mile is certainly interesting. I wonder if it is possible to reprogram a new value in that attribute. I could actually get it to match my real speed, instead of the Mazda 4% over value.

thats the approximate rpm (revolutions per mile) that we should see with our tire stock tire size according to the math. but we all know that math is never wholly accurate......hehe
