Okay guys, I owe Grungepup a steak dinner at Ruth Chris. We finished up tonight and over all I am happy as a fat kid eating cake. Next time I have the bumper off I will do some minor trimming but only because I know the bumper is touching the cooler a bit. As far as how it performs?

All I have to say is........................

HELLO 90PSI!!!!!!!

Pretty much anywhere in the very upper rev range it gets to 90PSI. I will start tracking data tomorrow.

It never got above 72-75PSI peak. More pressure is good. 09+ Rx-8 has nearly double the oil pressure.

Everything is holding up fine but my temp gauge is being gay. I keep getting random error codes. Gotta fix that ground.

Looks like this might be a mod well worth it if you have the know how with those pressure numbers

This mod is pretty straight forward, you just use an adapter that screws into the block, one for feed and one for return. Then you plumb the hoses and mount the cooler. I am happy with my setup but I think have a two cooler setup is okay too if you replace the stock coolers and run them using the existing lines. It would be much less work. I am sure you can find adapters to allow you to hook up better after market coolers and eliminate the stock flow thermostats.

wouldnt that much of an increase in oil pressure result in less oil being filtered? You are saturating the rear bypass which allows the engines pressure to go above its relief pressure?
So would it not be wise to do a rear bypass modification so more oil would be getting to your filter?
This intial observation does suggest that there is a lot of restriction/pressure loss in supplying the two coolers. restrictive thermosat in the cooler and lenght of tubes I guess.

From my understanding the filters are full flow meaning that the oil is always filtered.

More backpressure means that you have less flow.

Backpressure at same as relief valve pressure means you are losing flow to the bypass.

Am I missing the point here?

Hang on...where do you guys get the S2 (09) Double" the Oil Pressure??..it does not... it is just under 50% @3000 RPM (72.5 to 50.8 PSI)...this is not Double.

What I thought long back, the Oil Circuit is too long, remember you have an FC O-Pump system with wheel arch wide apart Oil Coolers in the S1 RX-8.

I wonder what the OP is for AT (Single LH) Oil Cooler?

Oh okay, my memory failed then I thought the 09's pressure topped out at 130PSI or so. I'm getting a little confused about the bypass stuff. My oil heats up much faster and my oil pressures are about 10-15PSI higher across the board.

Warmed up at idle I used to see about 20PSI and now I see about 30PSI based on what I saw this morning and last night. At redline (about) I was seeing mid 70's and now I see right at 90PSI. But as I said, I have not logged many data points yet so we will see how it averages out.

You're getting pretty much what we see on our gauges then, about ~5psi more at idle going up to about 15psi more than everyone else after 6k?

Yes sir. here are some pics. And yes I know the hose will get hit with debri, I will be installing screens very soon. But this hose is designed to be exposed to tough situation on outside hydraulic equipment which is why it is so expensive. Grungepup can attest to it's strength as he was the one using metal tin snips to cut it

Thanks. It needs some adjustment and on the next install I will move the thermostat way back but we were winging it and I am no fabricator by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah that was a good idea except for the little spider cracks in the paint from distorting the bumper I should have done it at a different angle but it's only noticable to me. Now I just need to trim that bottom of the cooler with a real cutter this weekend at my dads so I can get the bumper back nice and perfect. It's bugging me.

Opinions welcome.

This cooler has #12 AN fiitings, is made of heavy Gauge aluminum. The unit measures 28" x 5" x 5 1/4" and has 6 rows of cooling tubes.
Dude rotaryresurrection did this on his 8. If I recall right
So how are your temps?

I know of two others but I did not know rotary resurrection did this. Mt temps are great, just came from decent drive and they stayed between 180-185 degrees F. Pressures look good too.

Unbeliavable that this change can saturate the rear regulator so much, that it can't keep the 74 PSI relief presure.

Unbeliavable, but it seems to be true, if I see PhillipM and 9krpmrx8 mod.
