cant you just add the seafoam to the motor oil when you do and oil change and/or in the gas tank? the seafoam website says that you can seems like it would be easier and adding it too the oil has one effect and targets certain areas as does adding it to the gas tank targets certain areas too. So I was thinking next oil change add it too the oil ....then next oil change it would go in the gas tank. Thoughts?

Also cleaning the mass air flow sensor...i assume you just get a cleaner and open the air box and spray it on while engine is running? or should you take the sensor out and spray it and then reinstall? and could you do the throttle body the same way to clean it?

Thanks guys for informing me and helping with questions I have.

I wouldn't add seafoam to the oil of a Rx-8 for the simple fact when you change the oil you will NEVER get it all out due to the oil coolers.
For the MAF there is a special cleaner sold at your FLAPS for it. Remove the sensor, spray it clean, let it dry, reinstall.
Throttle body can be cleaned while still on, with some carb cleaner. Remove the intake tube in front of the throttle body have some one turn the key to "ON" (engine OFF) and hold the pedal down while you spray it clean.

Just my Opinions.

Did my rx8 and my Mazda 6 all went well and easy enough.
The 6 smoked for 4 minutes the 8 smoked for 12 minutes good lord.
The steps were pretty easy a long flat headed screwdriver is the key for this whole thing taking the fittings apart.

I bought a bunch of different sized tubing for the job the port hole size on the 8 was a I size smaller than 1/4 inch I only had 1/4 tubing smallest and held it firmly against it to get it working without leakage...
Anyone needs more help just email took me hour total start to finish besides the wait to let it sit...

I'm thinking of doing this today. Only thing that sucks about getting to the ports, is that I have my 2 stroke tank right there in front of the windshield washer juice container...

Cel came on during and stayed light? Or did it light up after?

Take it to have the Cel read so you know exactly what's wrong.

Hey guys, so i'm trying to seafoam the engine right now. i just took out the air filter box and i'm currently trying to disconnect the E.S.P.S. plug, but OMG that plug wont disconnect!! i've been trying to unplug it for the past 10 mins, but i seriously think somebody crazy glued the connection together. i even tried to get a pair of pliers to pull it apart, but the pliers wont fit. Did anyone else have this problem, and what did you guys do to pull it apart?

EDIT: i got it!...I had to jack up the car and was able to see exactly where i had to apply pressure to undo the clip.

Update: damnit. so i had the engine suck up the seafoam for 10 secs. but i totally forgot to repeat the process, i just moved on to the next port. and it's already been soaking for more then an hour....is it to late to put in more seafoam now? (i think if i repeated the process for both ports though i would have needed another can of seafoam. because i only did it once to each port and i only have about 1/8th of the can left)

i had to figure it out too, push on the clip and move it from side to side.

I have a 07 and 2 vacuum hoses are already plugged on the ports with a T and a long bigger hose that connect to the oil filler, i used that hose and pinched 1 small hose at the time to let it suck in each port an equal amout of seafoam. it's like if it was ment to do this and didnt had to remove windshield washer tank

here's my video :

Pretty easy for me. I used a screwdriver to pry the E shaft sensor plug, no problems there. Everything else went swimmingly though. Tons of smoke, especially after I went for a drive. Thick black smoke from that!

Seemed to help the hot starts a lot.

Wow dude.

I would seafoam it a few more times.

Make sure you put in some oil right when you first start it so the housings dont get dried up.

Word. Yeah, I'll wait a little bit to do it more, but it definitely had a lot of gunk in there. Kind of makes me wonder who owned the car before me, and what they did to it! I think they hit everything they could while driving it.... At least it feels like all the intake actuators work...

The looks more like someone who never took the engine past 6 k and let it idle for 5 hours at a time.

redline a day keeps the carbon away!

I've been bringing it up a good bit, but I doubt it will get rid of all the gunk in there right now. Trying to keep it to about 8,000 on most occasions.

If your that scared take it to a dealer and pay them to do it. If they mess up the engine it falls on them and not you.

Go change your oil with that and report your findings after 1000 miles.

the procedure is not that hard, just follow the official mazda instructions as per the TSB or DIY in this thread:
