- Atkins kit w/cryo? if you're talking about Apex, skip them and use either Stock or go all out, which means either Dr. Ianetti or NRS ceramic seal. For other o-ring, you can try using their Viton seals, they last longer but it's harder to install them. Oh, you might want to get some cyro treated side seals and springs.
- The plates, Send it to someone to lap and re-nitrite, contact this place http://www.chipsmotorsports.com , I never used them before but I know they do both. price on their site said 13B for 580 bux. I assume that's the price to do all 3 plates. They also can mill your RX-8 rotors to use 3mm apex. but it's not really needed if you are going to use Ceramic and have a safe tune. Call them and ask if they do RX-8 plates too.
- Oil mod is a must, but easy to do
- You can let chipsmotorsports do it too, probably ask them to give u a discount.
- if u gonna spend so much, might as well get a header to go with it
- sounds like a wonderful idea.
- Yea
- Easy to get/do
Sorry to hack your build.,. Good luck with it , Im going to be rebuilding my engine it has low compression is still starts and runs but I dont drive it to prevent damage, Im looking to get a rebuilt kit but not sure from where, Im seen you mention atkins, I think im going that route but not sure what kit to do, I want to get all new internals if bearing look good im keeping since my cousin has rebuilt many engines and never changes the bearing if they look good, never had an issue unless is oil pressure or others..
Do I really need the 1200 kit atkins sells or can I go with the 600 one,
Im going to be selling my daily now to get all parts for my 8 but dont want to get stuff I dont really need and I want my engine to last, My couins is up in chicago so not sure if he going to rebuild my engine or my good friend ,
im going with stock apex seals ,
Not sure if I should take engine apart 1st to see wat im looking into or sell my daily to have money ready,, I work 5 min away I can take a bike my pride is good, My wife drives a Lexus truck I own a RX8 AND A RX3 I dont mind people thinking im broke, why cuz I am I owen Rotaries, lol

I would take it apart and see what your dealing with.....you may find you can get away with a $500 kit gamble is yours to take but from what I have gathered....you cant replace too much

Yep its best to tear it apart first and see what you can reuse. For a basic rebuild id recommend
Apex seals and springs
Side seals and springs
Oil control ring springs and o rings
Oil scrapper ring springs
Corner seals/plugs and springs
Gasket kit

Dont forget all the specialty tools you will need and everything else. This is assuming of course you don't break anything, and all your housings and irons are in great shape. I would seriously consider paying someone to rebuild this engine for you. The renesis is not your regular 13B, you will need to get the 13bmsp workshop manual.

PLEASE LET SOMEONE REBUILD YOUR ENGINE FOR YOU.

i am a firm believer in not putting new apex seals into used housings. I would have them lapped to insure a flat mating surface. Would you put new piston rings without treating the cyclinder wall on a recip engine--Hell no--not if you want it to last. Same thing with the rotary.

NOT BALANCING???? Want a minute...9K rpm engine with 2 cast iron heavy ***'ed rotors floating inbetween 2 iron plates at 3 K rpm and it doesnt need to be balanced? Yea yea I know the oil collecting in the rotors can throw the balance off- yadda yadda--and Mazda supposivly compensated for that--just like they supposivly compensaded for this and that too!
i wouldnt even THINK of building this engine without the best balancing job I could get. I am totally with Dan on this one.

bare requirements would be all soft seals.

if you dont have a whole set of tools, its probably cheaper and better to have someone do the work for you.

and i recommend mazmart, rr, bdc, and bhr. contact them all to get a quote, just ask them how much would u get outta a good core - reason is if u will only get 300 or 500 outa a core and to ship it cost 200-300, whats the point? and tell them your budget. just keep in mind that you always get what you paid for. ceramic apex ? cryo sides? complete balancing and lighten assembly? all depends on ur budget.

well, to be honest most ppl keep their running engine under 7k ---- and factory balance is good for up to around 7-8k. its us performance junkie who wanna keep that sucker scream at 9k all the time -- even though its sucking our wallets dry

its funny you say that as I just bought "used" housings from Atkins with new apex seals (I didnt really have an option on the apex seals but couldnt pass up housings in great shape for the price

if I measure the e-shaft and its all good I may not balance the assembly. I do drive the **** out of my car but all of the assembly pieces are being reused. Would mazda assembe somehting that is that out of wack......wait...I need to retract that statement.

I guess the real question is how much are you willing to spend on this if money isnt an issue I'd crack the thing open....if it is an issue I'd just get the thing cracked open and see what your dealing with

if you are only doing it yourself to save money and you break the thing open and you need to housings or irons it may be better to "outsource" (unless your like me and you wnat to get your fingers dirty but that doesnt sound like the case). Little things add up quick and esp if you want to take advantage of your engine being out....it really get expensive)

Either way good luck to you....wish you the best

Gasket kit what kit is this the intake and exhaust kit ?
for rx8 its a bit different

in early rx u just buy the set it comes with everything. but for rx8 engine gasket set includes only a few gaskets for assembling the long block, like the intake manifold gaskets, for mt its n3z3-10-s50b, for the engine itself you will also need the "o ring" kit, which is the same for both at and mt, part number is n3z1-10-s60, this incldes all the rings the engine needs, inclduing oil control o ring, all coolant seals, all dowel pin seals, seals for the tension bolt, etc etc.

I'm refreshing my Hondas engine before I sell it ( new gaskets ,head gasket and new timing blet ) etc so I kinda ddint want to have my rx8 engine taking apart and have engine sitting while i wait for my car to sell I know it will sell fast this crappy civics sell like water in a beach,!! thats what I do buy fix and sell civics for my project cars, good money making cars and they so easy my son can do it, lol
i was thinking of doing the same thing, but my idiot friend who is so lazy doesnt want to do anything would rather donate his does not run civic and hope the place would give him some money back ... why doante? cuz they will even tow ur car for free and will have someone go to ur place to get the title ... ******* idiot and guess what he didnt get a penny back, not even tax credit cuz they just told him the car dont worth anything yea right i ran autocheck 2 months later and it was sold to someone else ... after that i never spoke with him again cuz he thought i was gonna rip him off by giving him 500 bux ... sucker

A mazmart engine beats your buddy's one 10 to 1, probably for a similar price too.
It's not always that smart to tackle a build without knowing what to buy and how to determine what works and what doesn't.
You clearly lack this knowledge, so does your "buddy" since you're wasting time asking here and didn't resort to him in the first place.
