TX Is this the Reverse Neutral Switch?

Okay guys, this is leaking. I looked in the service manual but it show the reverse neutral switch is on the drivers side and this is on the passengers side and is leaking. Do you think it is just the crush washer?

that is the reverse light switch, neutral switch is on drivers side up near the shifter

they are now the same part though, the reverse switch is easier to replace and usually the one that leaks since it is located in the trans oil area, you will need to drain and replace the oil to swap it out though

Ah ok, thanks. So you think the whole switch needs to be replaced or does it just need to be sealed up?

I had to replace the neutral switch. I cut a slot in the side of a deep well socket, for the wires, using a dremel tool. You couldn't get a standard openend wrench on it.

I wonder if an O2 sensor socket will work?

the O2 sensor socket is too small. lame I know. I had to go and buy a deep socket and cut it to make it a crowsfoot.

just to add, I have recently chnaged both the reverse and neutral switch.

To answer your question, the switch can leak through the wires or around the seal so its best to just replace it.

when changing it, all you need to do is just drop the front of the midpipe/catpipe and then you have easy access to the switch.

The size of the socket you need to modify is 27mm. I just cut a small 1/4" slot in the side of the socket. Just big enough for the wires.

also, if you go the route of cutting a deep socket, be sure to check that the edges that you cut are not sharp, last thing you want to do is cut the wires.

I bought a 27mm crowfoot from amazon for like $4. It took a couple hours to get the right angle and to get that sucker off... there's just not much room. A socket with a slot cut would have probably worked just as well or better.

Thanks guys, looks like I will be buying a harbor freight 27mm, I'm not cutting a craftsman socket

What sucks is that I just changed my tranny fluid a couple months ago.

craftsman has a life time warranty! just take it back to sears and swap it out when you are done.

unless you can make a clean dremmel cut appear as a manufacturing defect I doubt they would take it back...

I did. It is the only store, that I could find, that had a 27mm socket.

The location of the sensor is higher than the fluid level in the tranny.

Really? Okay because the service manual stated to drain the fluid I believe. That will save me some hassle.

If you're replacing the reverse (back up) switch you will lose the fluid. the Neutral switch at the top of the tranny on the drivers side should be above the fluid.

My 2004 just started doing this too. Anyone have instructions on how to get this replaced? I couldn't find any, and I don't know how I feel about paying $500 to replace a reverse switch.
