Oil Cap Fell Off

The other day I went to show someone my engine, and as I removed the engine cover I was shocked to see the oil cap laying on the wires next to the oil pipe (I doubt that’s what it's called).

I have no idea how long it had been sitting there, but no more than a week or so, since that’s the last time I changed my oil.

I was worried about any issue driving around like this might cause, do any of you guys foresee any? I go no CEL's (which really surprised me), and the oil level was well within acceptable limits when I checked it.

Don't think it should cause any damage, its too high up for oil too get out, I'm surprised you did'nt get a oilly smell inside when driving.
I managed to loose the 'o' ring out of my cap so it run two weeks with out one, found the 'o' ring a week later 20 feet up the road.

At least yours didn't fall out at speed.

One time I heard a 'clunk' under my car and looked out the rearview to see what I ran over. I watched as my bright yellow oil cap followed me down the road doing about 55, then veered off into the woods. One U-turn, About ten minutes, and one scratched oil cap later I was continuing down the road. Never have done that again.

Great story! :D I am amazed you were able to find the cap at all. Lucky it's a bright color.

Did you find anything else while you were looking for your oil cap?

Shouldn't cause any harm on a rotary, although I would change the oil again (never know what might've gotten in there).
