Octane booster long term effects?

Help.

Been having the "MIAC" problems for about six months. Been FI for a year, and should get a re-tune. Anyway, problem went away with a few gallons of 100 octane VP, but it's too expensive here...about $9.00/gallon. I did the throttle bypass mod, and it only helped a little.

I searched the net and read that NOS and Lucas MMT octane boosters worked pretty well. I tried the Lucas and the predet is gone. Does anyone know of the negative long-term effects of using these octane boosters or similar ones that use Xylene or Toluene? How long can I use them for?

Thanks in advance.

If you are detonating, gas prices should not matter; go with the "good stuff" till you get re-tuned.
I was told to always watch for this.
It probably started when your local stations started selling crappier gas. (at higher prices)
PS: Re-tune quick.

Ya...you're right. Better spend a few extra bucks now considering the risk. Hopefully I can get the piggyback re-tuned this week. Still interested in the octane booster info though, since I already tried it.

As long as their pure pure xylene and toluene won't hurt your car. But if you buy cheap stuff they may contain trace amounts of heavy metals that could shorten the life of any oxygen sensors your car may be using.

where do you live. Does it freeze there? Some have had luck running mostly distilled water and very little additives. The engine will run cooler.

as long as it doesnt get below 32 degrees where you live, and if its socal i assume not, you can use pure distilled water + water wetter.

any time of the year.

If you had detionation and your FI, you wouldn't be here because you would have a blown engine.

5th gear did a test on them, here's a link to the vid. They don't test everything but you be the judge.

Myth Busters used mothballs as octane booster and surprisingly, they got some gains out of it!
