Noise under the hood when cold starting

I have a 2007 Touring 6-sp manual and a few times when I've started the car on chilly mornings (I've only had the car since last Thursday night) there is a rather loud "choing" or "chung" sound from under the hood as soon as I start to move forward in 1st gear. It only happens once and I notice no loss of power or any other symptoms. I don't "feel" anything either. I don't think it happens when the car is warm. Any clues as to what this might be? I did search this forum but didn't find any posts that described the sound I'm hearing.

Welcome. Let the car warm up completely and all will be well.

brake self test I think. Normal. Try to give the car at least 15 seconds before you start moving.

your name reminds me of how often I get asked about my plate.. "RENESIS"

People seem to think it relates to classical music for some reason..

OK, this is weird - heard the same noise as I was rather spiritedly rounding an off-camber turn this morning. Car was fully warm.

^ Most likely the shroud covering the front rotor. This too is normal, and you'll mostly feel it (once) during sharp speedy turns.

Again, nothing to worry aboot

Cheers and welcome,

Ed

Take it to the dealer and have them ckeck the coil spings up front.the only noise you should have first thing is the pump clearing out exceess gas on start up and the self test jitter of the brake system as worm, detrich, and c41250n have said good luck and welcome!

Thanks, Ed! Just like having a new baby - every little noise is cause for consternation. And yes, I only heard it one time around that corner.

Is your 8 equiped with DSC? It might have been the DSC kicking in as you rounded that corner.

Ah! That could be it. But it sounded like the same noise I hear when I first start going forward after starting the car. I'll keep an ear out.

OK, I won't worry until there's really something to worry about!

Thanks to everyone for your support.
