That's much more ! The right price was 921 $ !!! And it's 1000 $ if I let them do the job.
The cheapest I could find on the net, shipped to France, is 378.80 $ :

Hello guys, I am new here and wanted to know what are your thoughts on what starter to get? I have been looking around and can get the upgraded one for 300-400$ but wanted to know if I could get by with getting the one from AAP for under $100.
I have been having hot start problems and filling up with gas and waiting 10 minutes at the pump before I can start my 8 is getting old. if the AAP starter will fix the hot starts problems for 100$ that would be awesome. I don't need a instant start I just want it to turn over with out waiting.

The whole panda/furry thing is kinda a joke on me I guess... Drunk and excited about getting my 8 I accidentally put "1.3_LittersOfFurry" instead of Fury.... Days later I realized my mistake and just kept it. The pic was taken while drunk and making pedophile bear jokes with friends on bourbon street. Never ate there so I can't commet on the food. I have a new pic I want to swap with it but I am unsure if I would be acceptable here on the forums.
Back on topic, i <3 this starter lol. Works awesome! Ordered my bhr ignition system this morning as well. Once I have it and the fan mod installed all I have to do is sit back and wait for 9-24-11 (warranty ends) so I can get the omp adapter and bhr midpipe (unless the cat craps out before) and be set.

If you watch the video I posted you can see my starting gradually improve with each thing I did.
As far as the AZ starter goes it did "Help" but ultimately I was not satisfied.
With the oem starter it took about 5-7secs to hot start.
With the AZ starter it took about 4-5sec to start. (my AZ starter cranking rpms were 180, I'll later edit my video to add that clip)
The Mazda upgraded starter takes about 1sec to start the car.
Hope this helps.

There are a few things to consider on hot start issues. Cimpression, carbon build up, coils/wires/plugs, cat, starter.

Would prefer to send you my old starter and get one from advance autoparts for less than 100$ ! Even with the shipping charge from France it will be cheaper than buying one at my local mazda dealer. And that's true for every mazda parts. (exept for the oversize or heavy ones)

Thanks for the info, I did seafoam for the carbon build up, I also changed the coils and plugs. I did this all one at a time and I could tell it getting better every time... I did jack up the 8 and looked at the starter I have now and it is the oem non upgraded starter with 70k miles on it. So with every thing I have been reading on here and other sites lead me to think that the next thing that is non expensive to try would be the starter. I am starting to think maybe I just need to spend the $$$ and get the better starter. 1sec to start the car would be nice!
Your Welcome. Honestly, If you live in the USA I would have a compression test done first. Your car should still be under the "8years/100kmiles" engine core warranty. If your car passes you have to pay for the compression test (Call around and get prices first, not all dealers charge the same price.), I paid $148 for a PASSING compression test, diagnoses and their "Zoom-Zoom" decarb treatment. And I now sleep much better at night knowing my engine has some life left in her. If your car fails the test and you have proof of proper maintenance, the test becomes free along with a new rebuilt engine.
If you are a new owner and are unsure of when the warranty is over go to mazdausa.com E-mail them (or call) with your VIN and they can tell you all sorts of cool things.
From talking to them I've learned quiet a lot about my car. MY warranty ends 9-24-11, I have one recall (clutch pedal), I'm on my 3rd engine (replaced @ 19k & 47k) and to top it off they are very nice.
I mention this since you stated you have to wait 10mins sometimes to restart. I actually bought the AZ starter then got the compression test, because I didn't want to hear any BS about it being old. lol BUT, My hard starts never required me to wait 10mins, Just had long cranking times when hot.
Hope this helps

if what 1.3_furrrrrrry () said its true, then the AZ/AAP starters are actually older style, SLOWER starter >_<, I mean it works but not good for too cold/hot climate.
I wonder if they will ever update their part with the newest information ...
or just wait until they update their parts list with 09+ models. 09+ will always have newest starter so that might do the trick.

The upgraded starter WAS available at AZ about a month ago (search 07 model) 3 days after I saw it, it was no longer available.
Here is the video of the AZ starter cranking speed video. I'll add one of the upgraded one later.

Does anyone know how to tell if the starter is going bad? I recently got under the car an found out that I do in fact have the updated oem starter. But im still having hot start problems where I have to crank between 4-5 seconds to get it to start. Suggestions? Compression test? Deal with it?
P.S Whenever I stop and get gas or go into the store real quick I usually just leave the engine running and lock the car for fear that i might not start when I return, even though it always has in the past.

I was thinking about that (search for newer model car), but on AAP its the same model for all 04-08
I should wait for 09+ I guess.
dunno about Autozone.
Hey 1.3, what scanner is that? I'm thinking of selling my code reader (I was cheap) and get a Actron 9185 or 9190 scanner.
