New engine time..

Wouldn't have even known I was low on compression if it didn't fail smog. To me it still runs great. Thinking about a Mazmart reman.
Is that the wise thing these days?

First, get a Reman from Mazmart,

then

Take the 5w20 away and use something with w40 at the very least

be it 0/5/10w40

and premix every tank.

be happy.

Good advice. Include budget for thing like coils/wires/plugs. Engine mounts. Clutch if manual, etc.

Did you take it to a dealer to have the compression test done and that's how you figured it out or does just having a smog test done determine low compression?

VA Compression Tested today

I had a compression test done at the stealership today. I couldn't stand not knowing whether or not it was going on me or not so I dropped the $99.95 @ Cavalier Mazda in Chesapeake, VA......kinda cheap compared to some others reports I've read on here.

It shows engine is in good condition. The numbers are as follows: R1=7.9,7.9,7.7 & R2=7.8,7.8,7.7 Report doesn't mention at what RPM. Should I be concerned with that?

Apparently standard is 8.5 & minimum is 6.9 so basically my engine is right b/t the two.

Anyone have any input on this and whether or not these numbers seem feasible and actually "good"?

Feedback is more than welcome as long as they're educated and not an "opinion". Factual information only is requested. Thanks in advance.

Anthony

New engine from Mazmart being installed in the next few days. New poly mounts and a clutch kit at the same time.
Switching to RL 10w-30 and RL 2C premix after I smog.
Thanks everyone!

New engine in. Much more low end now! The front pulley has a bit of a wobble though. We called Mazmart to let them know. For now, we will run it. I hope it doesn't eat belts...

Well at least do not run it until you work something out with Paul and figure out what the exact problem is. It could be rather serious, stack problems are fairly common, it happens.

Slight tangent - Is it possible to lift the engine out of the bay with the crank pulley attached? (specifically an Agency Power pulley)

The actual pulley part is likely not the problem and is easily removed.
