New engine time..

Wouldn't have even known I was low on compression if it didn't fail smog. To me it still runs great. Thinking about a Mazmart reman.
Is that the wise thing these days?

First, get a Reman from Mazmart,

then

Take the 5w20 away and use something with w40 at the very least

be it 0/5/10w40

and premix every tank.

be happy.

RadRedR3 03-26-2013 08:53 PM

Good advice. Include budget for thing like coils/wires/plugs. Engine mounts. Clutch if manual, etc.

Now the question is to street port or not? O_o

RX3+5 03-27-2013 09:57 AM

Prolly no street port! I just want to pass smog and last a bit longer.

Did you take it to a dealer to have the compression test done and that's how you figured it out or does just having a smog test done determine low compression?

RX3+5 03-27-2013 01:24 PM

Stealer. To lazy to pull the Shrader out of my compression tester!

RX3+5 03-27-2013 01:25 PM

Thinking about a local rebuilder.. 600.00 shipping each way kills.

j9fd3s 03-27-2013 02:06 PM

you sure its not a bad cat? there is only one real emissions part on the car, and its the kitty cat...

or if you like, mine passed smog with a dead/dying chamber on one rotor

RX3+5 03-27-2013 03:41 PM

Yup. New cat tried.

nycgps 03-27-2013 10:30 PM

u in CA? should be a lot of builders around ur area

RX3+5 03-28-2013 11:00 AM

Shipping is only 300.00 each way.. Better.

RX3+5 03-28-2013 11:55 AM

Front 4.4@245 and rear 5.4@245.

Compression Tested today

I had a compression test done at the stealership today. I couldn't stand not knowing whether or not it was going on me or not so I dropped the $99.95 @ Cavalier Mazda in Chesapeake, VA......kinda cheap compared to some others reports I've read on here. :p:

It shows engine is in good condition. The numbers are as follows: R1=7.9,7.9,7.7 & R2=7.8,7.8,7.7 Report doesn't mention at what RPM. Should I be concerned with that?

Apparently standard is 8.5 & minimum is 6.9 so basically my engine is right b/t the two.

Anyone have any input on this and whether or not these numbers seem feasible and actually "good"? :dunno:

Feedback is more than welcome as long as they're educated and not an "opinion". Factual information only is requested. Thanks in advance.

Anthony

New engine from Mazmart being installed in the next few days. New poly mounts and a clutch kit at the same time.
Switching to RL 10w-30 and RL 2C premix after I smog.
Thanks everyone!

Putting a new engine in mine as we speak....

RX3+5 05-23-2013 04:39 PM

New engine in. Much more low end now! The front pulley has a bit of a wobble though. We called Mazmart to let them know. For now, we will run it. I hope it doesn't eat belts...

9krpmrx8 05-23-2013 04:49 PM

Uh, you will wanna get that wobble fixed ASAP.

RX3+5 05-23-2013 04:50 PM

That means sending the engine back...

9krpmrx8 05-23-2013 04:56 PM

Well at least do not run it until you work something out with Paul and figure out what the exact problem is. It could be rather serious, stack problems are fairly common, it happens.

maskedferret 05-23-2013 05:09 PM

Slight tangent - Is it possible to lift the engine out of the bay with the crank pulley attached? (specifically an Agency Power pulley)

9krpmrx8 05-23-2013 05:10 PM

The actual pulley part is likely not the problem and is easily removed.

RX3+5 05-23-2013 05:27 PM

Not the pulley. I just looked at it.. Disturbing.

9krpmrx8 05-23-2013 05:37 PM

Probably a bad stack......
