Natural Power Gains

Hey, I am new to the forum, and have found some great info on here, both positive and negative. I guess that is just the nature of any car, can't expect it to be perfect. Anyways, I had read an article in Car and Driver about the 8 getting better with age, at least performance-wise. I am sure the article has been listed on here, but I was just wondering if anyone had actually experienced what C&D said. Their tester 8 actually got quicker 0-60 times at 40k miles (6.6 down to 5.9) as well as faster 1/4 mile times. Has anyone noticed this for themselves? Sounded like a great reason to keep the 8 despite the issues.

well rotary motors do take quite a bit longer to 'fully' break in than a normal piston motor, the do get better with age, but as far as getting more power with 30k, 40k, 50k mile on the car...while you might, i dont think it would ammount to anything really significant, certainly you wont drop your 0-60 time by over 1/2 a sec. Some of that might have to do with the motor as well as the trany, rear end, tires, wheel bearings, clutch, ect all being broken in and in service for a while, but even then its not gonna be that much of a difference.

Many owners notice that the smoothness and gas miliage gets better with age.

I wonder if it is more the flash revisions.

If C&D's car has been into Mazda for required service, then the reflash
should have been done. It would be a real shame if the C&D's long term
RX-8 was still on K or L flash. I think that most of us have agreed that the
newer flashes like N, and P have added some power...despite causing a
little havok with Canzoomers maps.

keep in mind there is also the 20,000 mile switch that changes the a/f map. It is slightly conservitive for the first 20,000 miles. Same as the RX-7's.

Rx-7's did have such a thing. I believe I even saw it in a manual, service or otherwise.. not sure which.

Not inconceivable that the '8 would have one, but for some reason I doubt it.

the whole 20k mile switch thing is true in the RX-7's, but I highly doubt it is the case for RX-8s...
