Transverse mounting a 13B/Renesis
Just like the thread title says.... is it possible? I've got a potential mid engine project kicking around here... and despite how "sacreligious" it might be, I'd love to use a rotary engine in it. Clearly, the standard transmission will not work.. anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

Good call TeamRX8, I hadn't even thought about that.
I'll bet the midengine layout would pose a problem for keeping the engine cool as well..
Shame, a turbo rotary powered Stratos is pretty much my dream!

Does it need to be a transverse mount? Rotaries are so compact, you might be able to fit it onto a transaxle in an axial mount position (if the transaxle will take such an interface, that is.....).
the whole works may need to be angled (get ready to rework the oil sump....) because of the height of the shaft, unless the coolant flow will work with the engine laying on its side.

Not necessarily. As I was researching a home built mid-engine project myself, I of course considered the Renesis. Mounting the radiator up front would allow for proper airflow, with the added benefit of considerably more volume. My biggest concern was adequate exhaust muffling for street use. I was looking at using a 4port motor in an 1800lb vehicle as 240hp would be more hp/weight than I'd really need. But it would be quite fun.

no, too expensive, and they don't make it in kit form any longer. I was going to go from the ground up using an MR2 turbo as a doner for the uprights, random pieces parts, and engine/tranny. The rotary was just a thought really. The very bad exhaust tone when not properly muffled turns me off to it.
