Thank you for the Instructions...had a quick look.

I think you should put a disclaimer on there as to Series 2 RX-8's and other markets outside the USA. Why?

As I mentioned before the S2 Display is different, so Until someone does it we won't know.

TPMS is mainly used in the US market only (not in Australia for Example), the wiring looms are different by Part Number, however, the TPMS connector "Could" still be there..again I can't confirm this.

Wiring Colors could also be different for ALL Series 2 RX-8's.

So basically if you do not have the Tire Pressure Module/Wiring in your RX-8 for either Series 1 or 2 RX-8, there may be an issue... this needs to be confirmed.

I would like to purchase your unit, but again I would like to see if it can be installed in a Series 2 and one without a TPMS.

thank You...

Read the instruction manual I posted earlier for the complete feature set.

Ok guys, the floodgates are open.

I have been talking with a couple vendors to see if they'd like to sell through their site, but in the end nothing worked out. So I will just sell them through the forum.

Group buy thread: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?p=3629344

Thanks guys for all your support and feedback during the development period!

mazda6 guy here. noticed that u mentioned the mazda6's have the same screen, and could possibly use this. im interested, but there are two different screens used in the 6's that are not interchangeable. the 03-05's are different then the 06-08's. so im wondering which one you guys have and are using? any chance any of you have a pic of the back of the screen? i could tell the difference from just the plugs, or the part # they have on the rear on a white sticker.

Hammond Manufacturing, lots of boxes available on digikey.

Mazda3/6 have the same display, but totally different circuitry behind it. To make this work on those cars requires a new design, and I don't have a 3 or 6 to work on at home.

Look at my post in the group buy thread. I've posted pics on where to hook up to the canbus at the connector. Nice and easy...

hey pieter3d! you PM inbox is full! sorry to post this semi informal post here hope you can get back to me...

im really impressed by your project. in fact its something that has been on my mind for several years and i just haven't had the time to get onto it, very busy with school, and i own a mazda 3.

im not sure if you knew that a person previously documents almost all the bus codes and the encodings...for the 3 at least. you can see his page here:

http://www.madox.net/blog/projects/mazda-can-bus/

and i'm sure that you already did your research.

im finally getting to starting my project, kind of like yours, however, i had an idea and a question in mind that i wanted to shoot at you. maybe you can save me from finding the answer out the hard way.

I wanted to send a higher priority message to the display, thereby, overriding any messages that are sent to the display on the bus by default. i had a very tentative look at your thread, and it seems like you went ahead and bypassed to the display effectively intercepting all messages to the display by default and passing them through your "box"... isn't it possible to just send higher priority messages to the display from the OBD port and not have to touch the screen at all? or would they then conflict...forgive my ignorance and lack of research, i simply haven't had any time to work on this yet, hopefully this Christmas.

i plan to use these boards as a development base and maybe make my own pcb in the future, when i get the 2010 3...hopefully in a few months.

http://www.modtronix.com/product_inf...roducts_id=111

Also me and another member somewhere else were thinking of integrating popular radar detectors, and 0-60...1/4 mile timers into the mix.

much congratulations on an epic project. keep up the good work and hope to hear from you. you can PM me or just respond here.

i would really appreciate it.

b0rna... seriously consider an RS232/USB header that us developer types can use to send in whatever data we want... pixel level support would be just fine too... that'd enable custom fonts, gfx, just about anything a geek like me would ever need.

not to hijack the thread, but as pieter3d kindly pointed out to me, the rx8 does not run on the same protocol as the 3. the 3 runs on whats called a controller area network or CAN-Bus. very popular and widely used in the auto industry (even in aerospace), and is slightly more complex than the SPI messaging protocol on the rx8. the CAN protocol also needs specific drivers ic's, and usb/serial development controllers for this are much more expensive to my knowledge.

though im planning to make a small profit from this...(eventually), i have some very very good reading material on CAN coding for anyone interested, and the development cost is ~100 including the programmer. i will definitely disclose all my material and code to any interested individual. however as it is different from the rx8, not many members around here will be able to take advantage of it and to be honest, pieter3d has done such a fantastic job, i would just follow in his shoes for experimenting further on your own.

Huh? I didn't say anything about can.... Im talking about full control over the lcd. If I want to write something to query the canbus obd2 readers are a dime a dozen and the protocol isn't that bad once you have the data stream converted.

I just need someone smarter than new to develop the lcd driver and pic code.

Very nice, top job. This is dated, so I hope you have moved forward with it. I can provide you with a contact, if you want help marketing it. Seriously, you just need to market it yourself... I'm sure most RX-8 owners (and MS6/MS3 owners) that know their cars are much more than just transportation will buy one. (Myself included).
