my grounding kit results
say what you will but after I installed a e bay grounding kit my car does idle smoother and the rpms do not drop when I load up the electrical system. I also discovered that the grounding points on the body were on top of paint.

Meaning that the factory grounding points were painted over before the grounding wires were attached? If so, that's interesting.

Some pics and more info would be appreciated. Would it have made a difference to clean the paint off the stock ground points or is this "kit" necessary for a good ground?

The ebay grounding kits are ridiculously cheap, so who cares if they work or not? 
Seriously.... If they ebay kits work, why buy one from R Magic or Amemiya for 10 times as much... I doubt they are 10 times better.
But lets see some pics of it!!!

Sorry guys ,
no digital camera. The grounding points on the engine where of course not painted. But the others one on the drivers side fender, two on the passenger side fender and one a little left on the airbox floor where all painted. True the bolts/threads were not, but the connector were all resting on paint. I sanded down through the paint and primer.
Nothing magical about the install. Just follow your common sense--cost $25 and the cool looking wire add a little bling. Cant go wrong imo.

Most of these kits install the same way. Mine was about $80, but I didn't get it from EBay it'a 4 AWG by the way.

Two more pics and I found where I got them and that I paid $75.00 for them. I didn't notice anything much different after putting them on, but it was a long time ago. All I can say Is I have 58,000 miles and very little problems with my 8. Ground Fusion

Didn't make any difference, that I could see.
....but it sure was cheap!
The red is to blend in with the car, but #1 son pointed out the error of putting two massive red cables to the ground on the battery!
Blacked them out, and marked the positive red.

I wonder if anyone has dynoed before and after with a grounding kit on the 8. It would be very simple thing to do. Just unhook it from the battery and reattach for the 2nd run. I am wondering if it could possibily help the high rpm stutter we sometimes see on the dyno charts. I know the coils are overworked but again ????

HD's wire is very, very stiff and difficult to work with, place, and route in the engine bay...I know... I bought some 4 guage and tried. No fun....also the wire & connectors you can get at HD are either copper or aluminum....subject to oxidation & corrosion respectively. This kit comes w/SS bolts and washers to replace the stock ones.
Saving maybe $20 or $30 on a mod that could be done so much better for just a bit more is arguably penny foolish.... but then again so are the gains.
There are 6 wires in this kit above, but I found a couple more points I connected for good measure for whatever good it does. Probably has more benefit as the car gets more miles, I found some corrosion on some of the OEM connectors.

Wow, $56. That is SO not worth rolling your own. My Home Depot comment was based more on having seen lots of $100+ kits from various vendors. Thanks for that link, I think I'll be getting a set of those.

Who said guilding the Lily was cheap? That might make a nice addition to any grounding kit... if it does anything...
IOW....are our coils grounded through the mounting bolt? Doesn't look like it from the wiring diagram, but rather grounding seems to be done through the (B) wire on the E2 connector...am I right?

I'm not sure as some coils have a 4 wire setup with a ground to the chassis and a ground back to the ECU box, the RX-8 coil wiring is only 3 wire so I'm not sure if the coil mounts them selves host an internal ground down to the plate, you'd really have to disect a coilpack to find out

i guess i'll invest in some after my dealer is done with the new starter/battery which is backordered... didn't even ask for it, they are being proactive i guess -shrug-
