great work shady . Done most of this myself - not much fun . Good on you for doing the rebuild - was not game to try that on .

Thanks Brettus! Honestly the hardest part so far was cleaning the rotors it took us about 6 hours for both of them.

Mike you found your login hahaha!

Yea I know I left my cam at home.

P.S. Mik3 is my friend who's helping me with the rebuild.

More pics soon of pretty shiny smooth rotors.

Good job Shady, determination and persistence will pay off for you no matter what you run into! I plan on keeping my car for sometime so maybe years down the road when out of warranty when I run into an issue or consider going FI I might do this as well. Keep up the good work!

Might want to throw in a whole lot of patience as well hahaha.

I plan on documenting the whole rebuild process, the breakdown is fairly simple.

Hopefully it will serve people years down the road when were all out of warranty and the 8 is no longer being produced.

More pics to come soon of the rotors.

Shady, did your engine finally fail or are you just doing preventative maintenance? Nice going, BTW.

I had low compression but all the seals are fine.

There was about 1mm thick cover of carbon and oil buildup all over the rotors, I imagine that was a culprit.

Interesting. Were you still using 7-8 oz MMO as premix?

Great Job on the Thread and wrenching. Please give us the history on your car, miles etc just anything you can add... The service it's had parts replaced. Gas used, type of driving(short trips, hyway)aggressive? Have you Seafoamed it? Were you having a problem and decided to change premix?

Thank you I couldn't have done it without my friends help though credit to him as well.

As for your question I'll give you the run down

Purchased in 2008 with 96k on the clock.

brought into mazdatrix to get a compression text 2 months ago at 124k compression was low but not horrible.

replaced the spark plugs every 15k oil changes at every 3k using castrol 10w30, also replaced the coils and wires. as far as mods go they are pretty mild for now

started pre mixing with MMO at 106k. After my compression test I switched to idemitsu. I stooped mixing MMO becuase it was waste. It's a mineral based solvent and is not doing any lubrication.

I had one long road trip to Colorado and back car held up fine. Minus stalling at the top of a hill in Vegas. but whatever.

Most of my driving was short city trips about a mile there and a mile back. Almost every weekend id do some agressive spirited driving in the canyons.

For my DD routes I would go through the general rpm range. I always let it warm up 30 seconds past the airpump stopping.

I sea foamed about 4 times since I had the car.

So far there is no evidence of a rebuild or reman used. so I'm guessing it had 124k on the original engine.

so clean! I'm going have a brand new looking engine! I spent an hour on the rear housing as well. Pics of that up later once it's complete.

It's nice to have the time to thoroughly clean each part before we put it back together.
