Looking for some guidance with oil type/brand

I'm currently in the Sand Box (Southwest Asia) and every spare time I get I'm constantly on here looking for better ways to run my 8 more efficiently. I've been reading a lot of threads on here trying to come up with the best decision for my 8. I've narrowed the list down to Idemitsu Synthetic and Royal Purple.

I've been trying to dig through the technical data on type of oil, but haven't been able to come to a conclusion. I've read various things, but it seems like a lot of people are against 5w-20, which I currently use Mobile1 with SuperSyn technology 5w-20.

Should I switch brands or at least the type of oil?

side question: My 2004 RX-8 currently has less than 44K miles on it, should I already change the spark plugs and/or ignition wires? Everything on my 8 is stock.

Any help will greatly be appreciated!!!!

if your really serious, get the Sohm OMP adapter and run a good two stroke + pre-mix. Then you can run whatever synthetic you like through the oil pan and no one can argue with you about it

At 44,000 miles it could probably use new plugs. Or at least pull them and take a look. Not good to leave plugs undisturbed for that long, especially if there was not adequate anti-seize used during installation. The longer plugs are in, the more chance for seizing in the threads.

yeah, I recommend changing the spark plugs every 25-30k.
Ignition coils go bad after a while as well so that's definitely something you should look into.

I'm looking for a simple solution and I couldn't care less about what other people have to say about synthetic. There's plenty of info on this forum in support of it. So which and what type oil should I use????? I believe both of them are cheaper than the Mobil1 I'm using. I'm paying 9 something a bottle.

Thanks! I'll definitely be doing this when I get back. Any suggestion of brands??? I keep see stuff about NGK on here so should I just go with them?

royal purple for engine oil.

your plugs/coils should be changed at 30k.

if you want to be more efficient - premix.

How do I go about premixing and What materials do I need?

There's a really long thread discussingmany diverse opinions on this. Personally, I use 3.5-oz of Idemitsu and 1.5-2 oz of FP+ (by LCD in Texas) with every fill-up. Some prefer a simpler, cheaper solution of MMO, while others say it's snake oil. Some prefer the more expensive Amsoil Saber Pro as a synthetic 2-stroke. First, decide if your priority is protecting the apex seals, or decarboning, or both.

That's why I use both Idemitsu and FP+. MMO is also supposed to be good for both, but I especially like Jax's idea of cyclohexanone (in FP+) emulsifying carbon iinto a graphite lubricant.

FP PLUS by LCD, Inc Some here call it a lubricious cleaner, ie, it lubricates while also cleaning. Apparently, it's also the only one that has a specific ingredient called cyclohexanone that not only dissolves carbon but converts it into a kind of graphite lubricant.
